May Teacher's Toolbox
It's Here! It's Here! The May edition of the Teachers Toolbox!
The May edition of the Teacher's Toolbox is now available! http://www.doe.in.gov/ccr/teachers-toolbox
Thank you for all of your hard work this school year! Teacher Appreciation Week is not enough time to express the gratitude for all of your work.
STEAM Resources
I was reading Beetles Lightly Toasted to Julian the other day, and the main character noted he could find 15 uses for a brick...and he was just getting started. As a STEAM school, we will be looking to use and repurpose lots of different items for students to use. The name of the game is to think outside the box. In honor of thinking outside the box, enjoy this resource...
NWEA
This week should be a math week!
Encourage kids that this is their opportunity to meet the goal they have been aiming for all year!
Nurse's Day is Wednesday
TELL Survey
We are currently at 85%...
Sheets were handed out to complete the TELL survey at cluster last week to all certified staff. If we have 100% of our staff complete these surveys by May 1, you will be rewarded with the knowledge of a job well done, with providing data to help us improve our educational program and school, and some future JEANS days.
Just for fun:
TLT Update
TLT spent time this week debriefing our NIET visit. I will be updating our staff about our reinforcement and refinement as a building, and in cluster coming soon. Jodi Leebeck gave us some great, specific feedback and areas to improve in. She also noted that there are no red flags in our TAP implementation.
I want to say thank you for your flexibility on Tuesday. Also, a big thank you to Tim Stutsman and Katie Pipp, who were randomly chosen to participate in the career teacher interview.

Today’s Focus: Teams
“A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves.”
– Lao Tzu
Reflections to Guide Your Journey
Think of a great leader in your life. How have they helped you achieve and accomplish more than you thought possible?
Teacher Recruitment Fair
On Friday May 6th, we hosted a local teacher recruitment event here at the Admin Center. This is a joint venture between GCS, the Chamber of Commerce and Teachers’ Credit Union. We have approximately 10 – 12 prospective teaching candidates who will be joining us for the day. In the morning, there will be a tour of a few schools and the community with lunch at the Old Bag Factory. In the afternoon, candidates will be interviewing with administrators. Administrators who plan to attend the interview sessions should plan to park across the street in the band practice area. This will allow our guests and other visitors to have ample parking for the day. Administrators should come prepared with your own interview questions. A schedule and candidate information will be provided to you.
TAP Bonus Pay
The second part of the TAP Bonus pay for teachers should have been received on Friday.
Building Trades Open House
The GHS Building Trades open house will be held this Saturday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. The address for the house is 2445 Tulip Blvd, which is located in the Gardens subdivision off of Clinton. Please stop by to see the work of our skilled and dedicated students.
School Nurses Day
National School Nurses Day is May 11th. We are very fortunate to work in a school district that has a nurse in every building. Make sure to thank them for the big part they play on your team!

Literacy Tools
The purpose the Literacy Focus of the Month is to provide guidance to administrators and teachers for supporting a monthly, school wide instructional focus based on best practices and research-based strategies in literacy. This "user-friendly" guide and support tools will assist districts and schools in the implementation of reading instruction in classrooms across multiple grade levels, as well as different subjects/content areas. The topics in this newsletter range from policies and procedures to the five essential components of reading as identified by the National Reading Panel. The material is devoted to strengthen administration and teacher content knowledge by focusing on one topic each month. Although the monthly focus will highlight and supplement a specific procedure or skill, it is impossible to teach the components in isolation; therefore, the Literacy Focus of the Month should serve to present a school-wide shared commitment to literacy.
