Special Thank You to Kusshi Sushi

Kusshi Sushi, a new restaurant in downtown Silver Spring, provided lunch to our entire staff on Thursday, October 10, 2022. The staff feasted on bento boxes that included teriyaki chicken, fried rice and California rolls. This was provided at NO cost to the staff. If you happen to visit Kusshi Sushi, please feel free to thank them for taking care of the teachers at TPES. Thank you Kusshi Sushi!

Message from our NAACP Parent Chair

Dear Parents and Guardians:

My name is Sharon Gaskins and I'm the Representative for Takoma Park Elementary School to the NAACP Parents' Council for this year. I have a 7 year old, Tucker, who is in second grade (Ms. Battistelli) and a 10 year old, Mikayla, who is in fourth grade at Piney Branch ES.

I'm writing to invite parents to the first meeting of the TPES NAACP Parent Council on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 pm via Zoom. The purpose of the Parents’ Council is to provide a forum through which interested citizens may offer assistance, guidance and support to Black parents and students of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) to pursue the highest quality education possible through encouragement, information sharing, positive motivation, critical evaluation and advocacy. In our November meeting we will be joined by Dr. Gadsden and will discuss TPES matters and recent updates from the Montgomery County NAACP Parent Council.

I will organize virtual meetings this year where parents can discuss any issues or concerns they may have, and I'll be sharing helpful resources. If you’d like to be added to our listserv, contact me at naacprep@tpespta.net. I look forward to meeting you soon!

The Dolphin Drive

The Dolphin Drive is off to a fantastic start! So far, we've reached around 16% of our goal. Let's keep the momentum going. We really appreciate all of the wonderful donations we've received so far! Every bit has been incredibly helpful in helping us to reach our goal so that the PTA can continue its important work in supporting TPES and its students.

One of our immediate projects is diversifying and expanding the library collection. The school library is instrumental in helping our children develop strong literacy skills that will serve them throughout their education and beyond. For elementary school students, a wide, diverse range of accessible books provides them with an opportunity to explore and develop their interests independently. I remember how proud my daughter was the first time she checked out a book of that she chose all on her own. The PTA provides necessary funding for the library collection to ensure that students with a wide range of interests can find a wealth of materials to support them and their literacy needs.

You can donate by:

-returning cash or check in the Dolphin Drive envelope back to school with your child, or

-through our website at https://tpespta.net/donations/fall-2022-dolphin-drive/

There's still time to donate.

Thank you again for your support. Go Dolphins!
