A Look at Our Week
Spring has sprung! I hope that you have enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend, and have spent some time outdoors. I went to the Arboretum with my family to do some research for our upcoming field trip!
Our big Science project this Month will be Weather. We will be recording the daily weather on our bulletin board, making kites, growing seeds etc.
At this time of year, my classroom is often targeted by a leprechaun called Louie. If you should hear about any shenanigans, you will know that Louie has returned once again to cause mischief! I daresay that he will be leading us on a hunt for his pot of gold in the Arboretum. If any of our chaperones would like to be involved setting the trail, please let me know!
This week we will be concentrating on looking through words as we read them, and checking their endings. Quite often children miss the end 's' on a word, and then they are marked incorrect on their reading assessment. Please encourage your child to look at the beginning part of a word, and the end part when decoding unknown words (as well as looking at the picture)
We had 3 more gold medal readers last week! If your child has not received a gold medal yet, it is either that I have not progress monitored them (this is the case for those reading at a 1st grade level) or that they are working towards the next level, and will conquer it soon! I will continue the gold medal reading program until every child has received one.
We will be finishing our 3-D shape unit in Math this week. It has been so much fun playing games with the shapes, and building them out of clay etc. We have also been working on word addition/subtraction problems. They get to practice their reading, as they do Math. It's a two-fer!
In terms of social skills this week, we are working on using kind words and giving compliments to our friends.
