Elvis began his singing career in 1954 with Sun Records label signing him in Memphis. In late 1955, his recording contract was sold to RCA Victor. Later through life he starred in 33 successful films, made history with his television appearances and specials. He has also sold over one billion records, more than any other artist.
Early Elvis growing up
Elvis Presley was rock & roll’s first real star, he played many huge roles in shaping America in the 1950's. He brought together American music from both sides of the color line and performed it making him an idol. He was called a bad influence many times through his career because of the bad things he tended to. Forty years after his death, Elvis is still considered The King of music.
The tragic death that also killed america
Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42. The cause of death was covered up by his family. It was later suspected that it was from an overdose of prescription drugs that caused his heart to stop. He was found with Morphine, Demerol, Chloropheniramine, Placidyl, Valium, Codeine, and Ethinamate.
