Fraction Fun Project

By: Tyler Woods

Problem

Jake is making cupcakes for the bake sale. Each of his cupcakes take ⅝ cups of flour. If he makes 1 1/4 dozen cupcakes how much flour will he use?

Steps of Work

First I took 5/8 and 1 1/4 dozen which is 15 cupcakes which is 15/1 as a fraction , then I multiplied the numerators which are 15 and 5 which equals 75 and then I multiplied the denominators which are 8 and one and that equals 8. Then I converted 75/8 into a mixed number which equals 9 3/8 cups flour.
