Top It
Learning the card game of Top It, will help us with the skill of knowing numbers that are greater and less and equal. This will be a game that we put in our math tubs for students practice that skill.
Yahtzee
First grade Yahtzee involves 2 dice, counters and a game board. On your turn, you roll the dice, add the two numbers together and mark that number with a counter. First one to fill in all of the numbers is the winner--but we are all winners because the game makes math fun!!
Math Tubs
We started our math tubs today. We practiced locating where the different stations were around the room. Once there, we did our activity with our partner, and then we practiced putting away the materials correctly. We did fabulous!
Real World Experience
We did not go to Chucky Cheese but pretty close. I had 3 games set up in my room and Mrs. Schulte had 3 games different games in her room. The children were given 10 unifix cubes to spend at the games. Each game was a different unifix cube price so the children had to spend their cubes wisely. Once they were out of cubes, they were done playing. They had to record which games they played and how many cubes they spent. It should have equaled 10. If not, they had to recalculate, and retrace the games they played.
Tic-Tac -Toe
Students had to toss a ball on the grid and had to do what was written on the square. Examples: 10 jumping jacks, body spell your name, 10 sit ups....
Ring Toss Chair
Students had 4 rings to try and rope the legs of the chair. It was harder than it looked.
Gator Knock Down
It was very hard to knock down these gators with a ball! This one was a popular game!!!
Class building
We made a friendship web with string. One person held on to the string and tossed the ball to another person and gave them a compliment. We did have a hard time remembering to hang on to the one part of the string, but we sure had a lot of laughs and we felt good getting a compliment!
Second steps
Mrs. Ross had the children pass around a stuffed bunny (I forgave her for not having a dog...) and they had to express their feelings using statements like: I feel sad when... and then they had to express I feel mad
when... The children were putting the word to go with the feeling.
Top Dog
Kendrick plays the violin and the piano! He has traveled to many places. He likes tigers and pizza and wants to be the UN Secretary General when he grown up!
