LIFTING OTHERS!
DSA students rise!
Dear Staff,
This past Saturday, I was a witness to an event that five DSA students participated in at Suffolk University. The event that I’m speaking about is the Marshall-Brennan Moot Court Competition.
Briefly, the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project is a nationally recognized law related education program that promotes democratic engagement, constitutional literacy, and legal advocacy by placing talented upper level law students in high schools to teach yearlong courses in constitutional law and oral advocacy.
I’m extremely happy to report that Anaiza Abrya Lyes will stand as an alternate for the national moot court competition! Last year, an alternate won the entire competition. I have no doubt that Anaiza will do the same.
Several times I was moved to tears. Because of their persistence, hard work, preparation and competitive spirit – Suely Pontes, Jizmary Rodriquez, Christian Ramos, Jason Miranda DePina, and student coach Breedjully Barbosa gave incredible performances.
They competed against schools such as: Cambridge Rindge and Latin, New Mission, City On A Hill and several other schools that have been part of this competition for a number of years. On three separate rounds, our students came out on top!
Recognition must go to the two Suffolk law students who diligently prepared our students to argue the First and Fifth amendments like pros – Allison Eleey and Kellianne Summer are superb instructors. When you see them in the halls on Tuesdays and Thursdays, please thank them for the amazing hard work they do on behalf of our students. Also, DPC Chris Ponthokkan was instrumental in preparing our students in the final hours.
As teachers and support staff, we know that when we ask (expect and demand) DSA students to excel – to exceed beyond expectations -- they do just that!
I'm so proud of these students.
Warm regards,
Nancy Holley Hughes, Dearborn STEM Academy teacher

DSA PREPARES TO LAUNCH ANOTHER PATHWAY...
Some pictures from our Engineering assessment brainstorming session ... super inspiring!
Students in Ms. Spencer’s class were able to complete a community service project by making Valentines Day cards for the Meals on Wheels Organization of Rhode Island - a non-profit that works to meet the nutritional and social needs of the elderly to help them maintain their independent lifestyles. Students completed over 75 Valentines Day cards! The students were supported by UPS and DWS employees!
