Jackson Newsletter
February
Dear Jackson Families,
We are soon approaching our 100th day of school! Your students have grown so much this year. We know they will continue to grow academically and socially. Continue to praise your child's efforts and encourage them to do their best each day. Help them develop their willingness to take risks, try something new, and keep trying even when it is tough.
This month, students who are designated English Learners will take part on the State assessment for English proficiency, ELPA. They will be assessed on their English growth in Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. Please encourage your child to show their best effort on this assessment.
Teachers will share information about Valentine's Day and the number of students in the class. If your child will participate, they need a card for each student in their classroom. No need to designate names on the cards. Just have your child fill in their name on the "from" section. Any treats need to be individually wrapped so they can be taken home easily.
Coming Soon! We will share Jackson T-shirt order information this month. Families of students in grade 3-12, information about Paper Online On Demand Tutoring will be shared soon. Your student will be able to connect with an online tutor through Clever on their iPad.
Disney Frozen Kids will perform this month. Check out the ticket information below to attend a show.
The weather is colder. Be sure your student wears appropriate clothing. Please reach out to Ms. Sisavanh, the counselor, for winter clothing resources. We go outside for recess everyday unless it is raining, snowing, high winds, or feels like 20 degrees or colder.
Thank you for following the traffic flow during arrival and dismissal. Please remember, do not use the top section of the bus lane when cones are reserving for the bus. Do not park in the bus lane. If you need to park, please use the parking lot to the west or park in the neighborhood. Only cross with students at the crosswalks. The north alley is reserved for daycare.
School attendance is very important. Students should attend school regularly, on time, and all day. If your child is sick, please call the office, 531-299-1620, to report the absence. Do not send your child to school if they are sick.
Please check your child's backpack each morning to make sure only have school items are inside. They should bring their iPad to school each day.

WELLNESS TIP OF THE MONTH
Be Active and Eat a Variety of Fruits and Vegetables
Keep your children healthy. Kids need 60 minutes of physical activity everyday. Set limits on passive screen time and non-healthy foods. Designate a time of the day when there are no electronics - and stick to it. Did you know that children should have 4-5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day? Eat a variety of colors too! Each color of fruits and vegetables contains different vitamins and minerals that are good for growth and development. Help us; help you. Sending students ready for school helps us; help them to be ready for learning each day.

Interested in Volunteering?
Please use link to complete the volunteer application:
https://omaha.tedk12.com/hire/ViewJob.aspx?JobID=11509
All adults who wish to volunteer during the school day on a school campus or chaperone day field trips, and district sponsored activity with students need to complete the application BEFORE volunteering with students or in the building. The required Volunteer Application allows the District and the schools to provide the appropriate level of clearance for school volunteers, protecting our students. Level 3 volunteering requires a background check.
All volunteers must reapply each school year to be considered for volunteer opportunities.
