English Village Family Newsletter
January 2023 Week 4
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPALS:
Greetings, everyone!
We hope that you and your family are healthy at this busy time of year! Our message this week is simple-Happy Holidays! We really hope that you find time to truly enjoy and find JOY this holiday season and over break! The time off is well-deserved. May you laugh and have fun with family and friends!
It is critical to recharge and take care of yourself as well. We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention also taking the time to reflect on the ups and downs of 2022, and set goals as we approach the new year.
As always, thank you all for being such great advocates and partners with us for your children! You all truly make EV the place to be! Enjoy and happy holidays!

SIP (School Improvement Plan) Update:
Please remember that our SIP drives all of the work that we do here at EV each and every day and that we have three goals for our SIP. Our third goal focuses on attendance-To eliminate the attendance gap between all students (89.32% and 42.6% Chronically absent) and our Black Boys (86.26% and Chronically absent 45.2%). *This data is from the Spring of 2022.
Updated data-From 12/17/22:All students=90.98% attendance rate, 34.9% chronic absenteeism
Black Boys=90.84% attendance rate, 37.1% chronic absenteeism
As you can see, as of now, we have closed the gap on overall attendance between our student population in general and our Black boys. However, there is still a gap in regards to the percentages of those students who are chronically absent. This tells us that we are making progress, but are not there yet as far as fully closing the gap. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Activities for Families
Clap and Count - Help your child build listening skills with this fun clapping game! Clap, slap, and tap a rhythm for your child to copy. Take turns and see how many taps they can remember in a row.
Adding Ice - Fill a glass part way with water. Ask your child to predict how many ice cubes it will take to make the water rise to the top. Add ice cubes one at a time while counting and compare with the prediction! Have your child determine if more or less ice cubes are needed.
KidsCare
The Greece Central School District's before and after school program, KidsCare, has been quite busy over the past few months supporting our students' social-emotional and recreational development. Please click through the Link to read up on the latest happenings!
Hello English Village families,
Happy New Year! We hope you all had a wonderful break and were able to spend time with the ones you love. This month in our lessons we are focusing on accepting responsibility for our actions. In our lessons we identify why it is important to tell the truth and how we can apologize.
There are three important steps to remember:
Was I a part of the problem?
Ask yourself “what could I have done to avoid the problem?”
Accept responsibility by telling the truth
Working on these steps and helping our children come up with ways they could have prevented the problem (i.e. throwing a ball in the house that broke a lamp) can help with their development of problem solving skills!
