From the Principal...
We have had quite a great start to the school year! Now that we are officially into the fall season, we are getting excited for our annual Trunk or Treat event on October 21st from 5-6pm and Parent/Teacher Conferences on October 26 & 27th. (Read below for more information.)
As the weather turns colder, please make sure your child(ren) has a jacket or sweater on hand. We will continue to be outside if there is no inclement weather. The weather policy states that we are outside in temperatures of 18 degrees and above. (Yes, we take windchill into account.)
With the change of school schedule this year, please have your child(ren) inside of the school building by the time the bell rings at 7:50am. Even a few minutes of lateness adds up over time. Students begin learning at 7:50am!
We look forward to a new fall season and as always, if you need anything, please call, email, or ClassDojo your classroom teacher(s), Principal, Social Worker, Counselor, etc.
Thank you,
Sara Miller, Principal

Kids Collections on Display
We offer the students the opportunity to display their collections from home in the Media Center display case. The kids really enjoy sharing their collections with their classmates and the display case is locked if security is a concern. To sign up call Mrs. Sobecki (328-5824) or send an email to rhonda.sobecki@d11.org . Please help make this a special way to let your child share their interest or hobby at school. I would like to thank Shane H for sharing his collection.
Volunteers Needed in the Media Center
We need help with shelving in the library on a weekly basis. If you are able to commit a couple hours a week – that would be a huge help. Please contact Mrs. Sobecki (328-5824 or rhonda.sobecki@d11.org ) if you are able to help.
Trunk or Treat

Time with Mrs. Ruiz, Jackson's School Social Worker
I will be out of the office from September 26th -October 4th. If you need anything, our amazing Counselor, Jan Kisler, is here for you.

Please be aware that State guidelines and D11 policy govern attendance. Here are some important points:
What is the law?
* Every child between the ages of 6 and 17 years old shall attend school for at least 1056 hours each school year if in secondary school and 968 hours each school year if in elementary school. (C.R.S. 22-33-104)
What is School District #11’s policy regarding attendance? (School Board Policy JH)
*¨The Board of Education believes that two of the most important factors in ensuring a child's educational development are parental involvement and parental responsibility.
*The Board of Education further believes that it is the obligation of every parent to ensure that every child under such parent's care and supervision receives adequate education and training.
What kind of absences can be excused?
1. Temporary illness can be excused by a parent—3 days or less. More than 3 days will require documentation from a doctor.
2. A student who is absent for an extended period due to physical, mental, or emotional disability (includes residential treatment centers) can be excused by a school administrator if documentation is provided by a doctor.
3. Absences due to severe weather conditions can be excused by a parent.
What is a truancy?
*A truancy is any unexcused absence.
When is absenteeism considered chronic?
*Chronic absenteeism occurs when a student misses 10% or more of any marking period whether excused or unexcused. (for example: 4 days in a quarter)
When is truancy considered habitual?
*Truancy is considered habitual when a student misses 4 days in a 30-day span or 10 days in a school year.
What are the possible consequences for being chronically absent?
*Requiring doctor’s note for documentation of illness
*Being placed on an attendance plan or contract
*Going to attendance court
What are the possible consequences for being habitually truant?
*Being placed on an attendance plan or contract
*Attending a truancy hearing in the Office of Student Discipline
*Going to attendance court
Thank you!
