Holy Name Highlights
September 14, 2018
Note from the Principal's Desk
This Thursday at Mass we heard from the Gospel of Luke that Jesus tells his disciples, and us, to “love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” These commands are a challenge for all of us! I have conversations regularly with kids who are struggling with their peers and challenge them to be kind, make good choices, and ultimately know that you don’t always have to be friends with everyone, but we must try to see in them the face of Jesus – even in those times where they are not reciprocating those same feelings!
We are excited that the playground build day is quickly approaching! We still need as many volunteers as we can get for Saturday, September 22nd! We should be able to get the whole thing built in the one day! Again, a special thanks to Mrs. Carroll for all her hard work in planning, fundraising, and organizing the build!
Have a great weekend!

Attention: 7th and 8th Grade Cadet Cheerleaders
Dear 7th & 8th Grade Families,
In years past Holy Name has supported multiple cheerleader squads to cheer on our boys football team(s). Unfortunately this year our cheer coaches were unable to return to Holy Name and our squads dissolved. We are blessed to have a few mom’s who have volunteered to chaperone a last minute cadet squad and two 8th grade former cheerleaders who are stepping up to teach the chants and cheers for this year.
If you have a daughter who is interested in cheering for the cadet (7th/8th) grade football team please send an email to carries@comcast.net no later than this Sunday, September 16th. We are working on setting up some practice dates and times as soon as possible. You will also need to purchase a uniform for your daughter which we are currently sourcing. Because of our last minute squad creation, our intent is to keep uniforms simple and low cost (cheer t-shirts, bows, socks and shorts only). Once we have these items officially identified and priced, we will let you know costs and delivery. You will be required to pay Holy Name for the uniform. Additionally, your daughter will need to wear white tennis shoes – preferably all white “cheer” shoes – Payless carries a decent shoe for low $ however you are free to source them from wherever you like.
This opportunity is open to 7th and 8th grade girls only at this time. Please respond to carries@comcast.net if your daughter is interested. To assist us in quickly gathering as much information as possible for your daughter, please reply with:
Her name
Her grade
T-shirt size (specify adult or child SMLXL)
Short size (specify adult or child, soffee style with elastic waistbands)
Shoe size – for ordering socks…..just need to know if she wears youth or adult size socks
Your name
Your email
Your cell
Thank you and if you have questions you can email me at the address above or txt me at 317-590-1154

Fall Book Fair
Our fall book fair will take place the week of November 12-16. We are looking for a couple of parents that would be willing to take the lead on running the book fair. This would include setting up the fair, being present throughout the week for classes to shop, and packing up the materials at the end of the week. Tuesday of that week is Grand Adult Day, which is a very busy book fair day- we will need additional parent volunteers to help this day. If you would be willing to take charge of the book fair this fall, please contact Amy Wright at awright@holyname.cc
Indianapolis Children's Choir
We hope your school year is off to a great start! As many of you know, the Indianapolis Children's Choir has choirs around the city to provide extra musical opportunities for students from KG through 12th grade. I've attached flyers for the choir that meets closest to you. If you would have a few minutes to share the information with your students, parents, or post the flyer, we would greatly appreciate it! If there is anything we can do to support you at your school, please let us know. Best wishes for a wonderful school year!

Oktoberfest Sign-Ups!
The Holy Name Catholic Church Oktoberfest, scheduled this year for October 5th and 6th, is a fun and family-friendly festival with great live music, delicious authentic homemade German food and desserts, and popular adult beverages. It's one of Holy Name's biggest fundraisers of the year, and because a significant portion of the Parish budget is used to support the school, this fundraiser also directly benefits our students.
The Holy Name Oktoberfest Committee is now seeking volunteers to help make it a success. Please consider donating just a few hours of your time in support of this important fundraiser for Holy Name students, teachers, and parishioners. (Note: While Roncalli students are welcome to volunteer as service hours, our Holy Name kids are not old enough to sign up.) Use the SignUp Genius link below, or call the Parish Office at 317-784-5454. We can't do this without you!

RE: Roncalli High School “CYO Football Night”
WHEN: Friday, September 14, 2018 at 7:00 PM vs. Scecina
Please make every effort to e-mail your most current cadet roster (Jersey #’s are not needed) to the RHS Athletic Office; clauck@roncalli.org or fax the roster to 788-4094 by Tuesday afternoon (9/11/18) at 5:00 PM.
Please arrive with your team (in uniform jersey) by 6:40 at the East (Team) Gate.
Coaches and players/cheerleaders in uniform jersey will be admitted free of charge!
All parents are expected to pay admission. The far NORTHEAST SECTION of the home
Bleachers have been designated as the CYO seating area.
With five (5) minutes remaining in the first half, please assemble your team on the asphalt behind the East End Zone. You will receive assistance lining up your teams for introductions. PLEASE be sure that all players walk across the track at the team gate only both before and after introductions.
Each team will then line up on the visitor’s sideline at a designated yard line at the
half. Introductions will begin after the Rebel band’s performance. While we want all
3/4 and 5/6th grade teams involved, due to time constraints their names will not be
announced.
When your team is introduced, please run across the field toward the
Roncalli fans, you will stop at the side line on the home side of the
playing field and stay there until all teams have been introduced. Cheerleaders in attendance are asked to wait on the home sideline as the players run across the field.
After all teams have been introduced you will be recognized one more time over the P.A. Following that introduction, you will return to your seating area for the playing of the 2nd half. Go Rebels!
Thanks to all of you for your cooperation in this very important South Deanery
CYO football event at Roncalli High School.
