In Observance of Veteran's Day
How Did Veteran's Day Start?
The first celebration using the term Veterans Day occurred in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1947. Raymond Weeks, a World War II veteran, organized "National Veterans Day," which included a parade and other festivities, to honor all veterans. The event was held on November 11, then designated Armistice Day. Later, U.S. Representative Edward.
Rees of Kansas proposed a bill that would change Armistice Day to Veterans Day. In 1954, Congress passed the bill that President Eisenhower signed proclaiming November 11 as Veterans Day. Raymond Weeks received the Presidential Citizens Medal from President Reagan in November 1982. Weeks' local parade and ceremonies are now an annual event celebrated nationwide.
The Susan H. Nelson High School Counseling Department is excited to announce the creation of the SNHS Counselor News Network YouTube channel. The counseling department will be broadcasting live webinars for our students and parents/guardians on a whole host of counseling topics including, college and career readiness, academics, financial aid, scholarships, social/emotional issues, etc., etc.
The webinars will be broadcast live, and viewers will be able to watch at home and actively participate in the discussion by sending in questions to the webinar presenters in real time. However, all viewer’s audio and video will be muted and turned off, so participants will only be able to view and communicate with the presenters. This will assure anonymity for all viewers and protect their privacy. At the conclusion of each broadcast the video for each webinar will be posted on the SNHS Counselor News Network YouTube channel for later viewing.
In order to reach as large an audience as possible we are asking all of our students and parents/guardians to go to our channel and hit the “SUBSCRIBE” button now! This will enable subscribers to receive notifications for webinars and videos posted on our channel in real time.
