OCTOBER 05, 2022 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
We had an awesome homecoming week full of activities, community, and school spirit. The week concluded Saturday with a very full, well-attended homecoming dance. Students had a great time hanging out, dancing and being in community with each other. Thank you, Mrs. Brockman, Ms. Ramirez, and our student leaders for organizing a great week and creating opportunities for students and staff to be SLP Panther Proud together!
College Knowledge Month
October is “College Knowledge Month!” We are hosting many activities this month to support exploration and preparation. Many college and career representatives will be here to increase student exposure to a variety of options. Most colleges in Minnesota waive admissions application fees during College Knowledge Month, so it is a great month for students to start their applications.
Find additional information about College Knowledge Month in the need to know section of today’s newsletter. Please encourage your student to participate in activities this month.

October is College Knowledge Month at SLPHS
Spring Lake Park High School is celebrating College Knowledge Month. With Minnesota colleges and universities, there are a number of special events happening throughout the month.
Events focus on providing every graduating high school senior with the opportunity to explore their options for life after high school. There are also events to support students in applying to college. These include free events for students and families to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Students and families are encouraged to take a look at the opportunities this month and participate in the various events that will help ease the transition from high school to college. Learn more about the special events, field trips and college and military visits hosted by SLPHS throughout October.

Building the future - in our parking lot
A house is rising in the parking lot of Spring Lake Park High School. More than 40 students in the new Construction Trades course are spending a few hours a day on the real-world, hands-on learning experience. Next spring, a completed one-level, two-bedroom home will be moved into our community.
High school teacher Scott Wicklund is leading the year-long project. He will be helped by many experts in the field through on-site work, tours and learning at local businesses. The goal is to expose students to the different trade options and have some fun while also helping them find a potential career path after graduation.
The Construction Trades course is part of the Technology, Engineering and Design Pathway. It will also include elements from our other two pathways at Spring Lake Park High School. Read more online.
