A MESSAGE FROM MRS. MOLITOR
Hello Glendale Families!
The story for this month is: Mae Among The Stars by Roda Ahmed
A beautiful picture book for sharing and marking special occasions such as graduation, inspired by the life of the first African American woman to travel in space, Mae Jemison.
When Little Mae was a child, she dreamed of dancing in space. She imagined herself surrounded by billions of stars, floating, gliding, and discovering.
She wanted to be an astronaut.
Her mom told her, "If you believe it, and work hard for it, anything is possible.”
Little Mae’s curiosity, intelligence, and determination, matched with her parents' encouraging words, paved the way for her incredible success at NASA as the first African American woman to travel in space.
This book will inspire other young girls to reach for the stars, to aspire for the impossible, and to persist with childlike imagination.
I hope you enjoy it, and always remember to :
Be Safe
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
Jennifer Molitor
Glendale Elementary School Principal
C.A.R.E.S

Students who are recognized will be honored with a certificate, have their names announced at an All School Meeting, will be showcased in the Glendale monthly newsletter and will get to enjoy a cinnamon roll breakfast with Mrs. Molitor & the other recipients during morning meeting.

Why statewide testing?
Minnesota values its educational system and the professionalism of its educators. Minnesota educators created the academic standards which are rigorous and prepare our students for career and college. The statewide assessments are how we as a state measure that curriculum and daily instruction in our schools are being aligned to the academics standards, ensuring all students are being provided an equitable education. Statewide assessment results are just one tool to monitor that we are providing our children with the education that will ensure a strong workforce and knowledgeable citizens (from the Minnesota Department of Education).
Please click below to read more information about statewide testing and access the parent/guardian opt out form. This form must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to the main office.

Happy March Everyone!! All grades have started our Floor Hockey unit. We played some Mega Hockey and now we are playing some 4 on 4 games. As a whole school we are concentrating on Sportsmanship and Cooperation floor hockey style! Students are understanding the value of being a part of a team, rotating positions and helping each other get stronger with their skills. Be sure to ask your child about Physical Education class when they get home! REMEMBER TO PACK TENNIS SHOES.
MEDIA:
February was a busy month with I Love to Read Month! Students participated in at home BINGO boards, weekly trivia, and fun Friday activities! The 4 trivia winners were Lani Erickson (Mr. Geisler), Tayden Jacobson (Mr. Geisler), Max Miller (Mrs. Rittenhouse) and Mia Masters (Mrs. Jensen). They each won a $10 Barnes N Noble gift card!
In Media 2nd-5th graders began completing lessons on Code.org. They are learning vocabulary words such as algorithm, debugging, event and loops. K and 1st graders began a new game called Codespark. They need to use critical thinking, problem solving and determination to complete the levels.
MUSIC:
Kinders have been learning how music moves (high/low and fast/slow), along with composing their own high/low songs and playing them on the step bells. Music in 1st - 3rd grade has been busy with learning music for our concert which will take place in May (details to come soon!). 4th and 5th grade have been playing Boomwhackers, getting ready for recorders (4th), and 5th graders have learned 4 chords so far on the ukulele (C, F, a minor and G7). 4th and 5th grade choir had a wonderful choir concert to wrap up the month of February. What an amazing accomplishment!
SUBSTITUTES NEEDED DISTRICT WIDE!
COLD WEATHER APPEARAL & GUIDELINES
We are hoping spring is RIGHT around the corner! However, dressing your child with warm clothes, hats, gloves, snow pants and boots helps students have a fun time in any cold, snowy weather we may still have. (Afterall, we DO live in Minnesota! And March is our snowiest month) **Students will always go outdoors for recess unless the "feels like" temperature falls below -5 degrees or it is steadily raining. Please help to make sure your child is prepared for outdoor recess each day!
**IMPORTANT: BE SURE TO LABEL YOUR CHILD’S JACKET, MITTENS, HAT, SNOW PANTS, AND BOOTS TO HELP PREVENT THEM FROM GETTING LOST!!
PTC CORNER
Hello Glendale Families -
We are busy planning a number of events this spring including more restaurant nights and a SUN-sational Teacher Appreciation Week! We will also be hosting a Family Fun event with games, lots of prizes, raffle items, food and more. Be on the look for more details coming home as we get closer to each event.
One of our big projects coming out of the Glendale Games fundraiser this fall was an indoor mural. We are excited to say that this project is moving forward and we are currently waiting on design options from the artist. We will include staff and students in the final design selection and are so excited to see this in our hallway later this spring!
