Lowell Middle School
Red Hot News September 2022

From the Desk of the Principal
Dear Lowell Middle School Families:
It is hard to believe that it is mid-September already. We are off to a great start with a wonderful group of students. I wanted to remind families that you can read our daily announcements by clicking on the link here. Please save the link so you can refer to it any time. The announcements provide updates on call-outs for a variety of clubs and sports that we offer at LMS. We have a huge assortment of extra-curricular activities so I encourage all students to try to find something that they find interesting.
In addition, we have study tables available to all students every Monday-Thursday from 3:00-4:00. Two of our LMS teachers conduct the study tables. They can provide a quiet place for your child to finish any unfinished work, or they can help them if they are having difficulty in any of their classes. Students are asked to wait until they are released from class at 3:00 and then they will meet the teachers in the media center. We don't, however, provide transportation for students for study tables. Pick up is at 4:00 in the front of the building at door 1. There is no need to preregister for study tables. You can keep updated on your child's grades by logging in to your child's Canvas account to check on grades or missing assignments. Instructions for setting up a parent account will be later in this newsletter.

Message from our School Nurse
If you are doing any closet cleaning, we are requesting any clothing your child may have outgrown. We are always looking for extra clothes to keep in the nurse's room in the event of an emergency. We need t-shirts, shorts and sweats/pants size youth med-adult X-large.
Thank you so much,
Nurse Cox

Lowell Middle School Mission and Goals
Each year, together with our school staff and community input, we build a plan for improvement. The plan includes what we do each day, and where we would like to be in the future. I wanted to share our goals as they align to the district vision and mission.
District Mission
Engaged to Learn * Equipped to Achieve * Empowered to Succeed
Tri-Creek School Corporation commits to engage all in relevant learning experiences, equip them with meaningful knowledge and skills, and empower them with the confidence to thrive.
District Vision
High Achievement * Growth * Equity * Pride * Well-Rounded Experiences
The Tri-Creek School Corporation of students, staff, and community endeavors to be a recognized leader for high achievement and exceptional growth. Innovative and equitable approaches build upon strong community pride and provide all students with well-rounded educational experiences to prepare for future successes.
We Inspire the world around us
We are:
Innovative Problem Solvers
Next-Level Ready Learners
Successful Communicators
Passionate Advocates
Independent Thinkers
Risk Takers
Empathetic Citizens
LMS Goals
Lowell Middle School will increase the percentage of students who score at or above proficiency by at least 10% on the ELA and Mathematics ILEARN assessment.
At Lowell Middle School 85% or more of respondents will provide a score of satisfied or highly satisfied on a communication survey that will be sent out to students, families, and staff. Improvement will be measured by survey results sent out near end of the school year.
These goals were created to address our school needs in a variety of areas. We feel it is important to strive to have strong communication with all stakeholders and to continue to stretch ourselves academically. We appreciate our parental support as we work toward our goals, which will positively impact our students.
Setting up a Canvas Parent Account
Greetings, Tri-Creek Families!
As a family member of a Tri-Creek student, this letter includes the steps you will take to create a Parent Canvas Account. We strongly encourage you to create a Parent Canvas Account so that you can access resources and materials and maintain communication with your child’s teacher(s).
NOTE - if you created a Parent Canvas Account in 2021/2022, your accounts will remain linked for the life of the student account within Canvas, even when a new school year begins. However, Observers do have the ability to remove students that they are observing (should they wish) via their personal account settings (see this website).
When you are ready to create your Parent Canvas Account, this detailed document will walk you through the self-registration process step-by-step. This is the Tri-Creek Canvas website. Once opened, click “Parent of a Canvas User?” at the top and follow the self-registration process from the link above.
When creating your Parent Canvas Account, you will be asked for a Student Pairing Code. For our elementary students, this Pairing Code will be shared with you by your child’s teacher. For our middle and high school students, the student will generate their own Pairing Code and share it with the family members. Here are step-by-step directions for your student to follow to generate their Pairing Code.
Canvas also offers a Parent App. Learn more about using the app on your Apple or Android device(s) here. If you choose to use the Canvas Parent App, you will first be prompted to “Find School.” For a school, enter Tri-Creek School Corporation - Parents. You do not enter your child’s school name when searching but rather Tri-Creek School Corporation - Parents.
We recognize that support will be needed. For technical assistance, please email canvas@tricreek.k12.in.us and a support team member will follow up with you.
Not only are we excited by the start of a new school year, but we look forward to building even stronger relationships between educators, students, and families through the continued implementation of Canvas.
Sincerely,
Kevin Deal
Lowell Labor Day Parade
We are well underway for this school year, and it has been a very exciting start to the year thus far. From fog delays to fierce storms, our Red Devils have truly been putting in the work. I have truly enjoyed getting to know all of our students and becoming a part of the Red Devil family. I am looking forward to continuing to meet more families at our football games, volleyball matches and cross country meets. So far, my highlight has been walking in the Annual Lowell Labor Day Parade with our students!
