8th Grade Scholarships
The Knights of St. John will be awarding (2) $500 scholarships again this year for students planning to attend a Catholic high school: one for a boy and one for a girl. Students should write a short essay (paragraph or two) about why they want to attend a Catholic high school. The essay is due to me by April 17.
Congratulations 8th gr girls Bball
Congratulations to our 8th grade girls for making it to the championship game of the SEI Tourney! To show our support, we will have a spirit day (and wear red, white, and black) on Thursday. The game will start with tip off for 8th grade at aprox 6:30 at Sunman Dearborn Middle School. GO CARDS!
Archery Help
We are still looking for help supervising our Archery Team. Mr. Gy Kern and myself both have commitments that make being at every practice challenging. And it is always good to have 2 adults at practice, because there is much to watch to keep everyone safe. So if anyone would like to help, please let us know. We meet every Tuesday from 3:10-4:30 in the old gym.

PTO Delivers Flexible Seating Requests to Classrooms
After receiving a request for a flexible seating item this summer from one teacher, PTO opened up a flexible seating “wishlist” for all teachers at the beginning of the year. Many requests were received for small classroom updates and improvements including various seating options, portable desks, tables, chairs, and bench seating with storage, etc. PTO then set out to raise the money to be able to purchase all of the items needed.
With the proceeds of the SLS Dance, Chicken Dinner at the Knights of Columbus, and part of the funds raised with the new partnership with Dierckman Research, the PTO was successful in raising enough money to purchase ~$7,000 in teacher requests for their classrooms!
Thank you to all who have volunteered and supported PTO fundraisers which make supporting our teachers and filling their classroom requests possible!
Pizza Hut Fundraiser
Mark your calendars! Our next monthly Pizza Hut fundraiser will take place on Wednesday, March 11th, from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm. Enjoy some great tasting pizza while helping out St. Louis at the same time. Thank you for your support!
5th/6th Grade Academic Team
This past Saturday, March 7th, the St. Louis 5th/6th graders were 2nd overall during the Batesville Deanery 5th/6th Grade Academic Meet. The meet was hosted by Oldenburg Academy and Thomas Moore College. The participating teams were: St. Louis, St. Nicholas,
St. Lawrence, St. Michael, St. Mary's of Greensburg, St. Mary of Aurora, and St. Joseph of Shelbyville.
First I want to say how proud I am of our team! Even though we came in second, they sure
represented St. Louis School in a way we can all be proud of.
Thank you Gretchen, Jane and Denise for stepping up to help coach this amazing team.
Thank you Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Giesting for allowing us to practice in your classrooms.
Thank you Chad for your support. A huge THANK YOU to the parents for not only their support, BUT also for providing all those delicious snacks during practices! But most of all, I want to thank the kids for a great year!!
Good luck to my 6th graders next year going into the 7th/8th AT competition at LaSalle. I also hope to see all my 5th graders return next year!! Let’s get another winning streak going!!
GREAT JOB ST. LOUIS CATHOLIC SCHOOL 5th/6th GRADE ACADEMIC

Thanks to the RCCF
Mrs. Narwold and her students want to thank the Ripley County Community Foundation and Hillenbrand for their support at St. Louis Catholic School.
Spanish Club
Our first meeting was a success, with 17 participants! We learned a little bit about the history of the piñata and then went on to break one. We talked about possible Spanish Club outings and activities and what we will do as a group to fund those ideas.
Our next meeting will take place on April 14th, 3-4pm in the Spanish room. Anyone 5th-8th grade may attend. Please direct questions to Mrs. Brooks or Mrs. Geisen.
Kindergarten
The Building Blocks of Math
In January, St. Louis School Kindergarten was awarded a grant by the Ripley County Youth Outreach and Ripley County Community Foundation for Math Stackers. Math Stackers are mathematical building blocks. These blocks allow students to organize, manipulate and better understand the properties of mathematics. For example, when used for addition, two numbers stacked will measure the same height as the sum. When 6 and 4 are stacked, they measure the same height as the 10 block. Math Stackers allow our Kindergarteners the ability to question, manipulate and discover new ways to solve problems. We are so excited to implement this hands-on tool into our Math curriculum. We would also like to say thank you to the Ripley County Community Foundation and Ripley Youth Outreach for giving us the opportunity to purchase this learning kit.
The Joy of Reading
One of our Kindergarteners was so excited to have the opportunity to read to the class. Our Kinders have grown so much this year and we love to see them show what they know. Luke read "The Day The Crayons Quit" during the few minutes before dismissal.
Young Hoosier Party
Our Young Hoosier Party for this year is quickly approaching!!! Hopefully our participants are getting excited to go to Skyzone located in Fishers, IN on 4/14/20. The deadline for books is 4/1, so that I can ensure that all waivers for Skyzone are completed as well as permission slips are signed. We will have a pizza party following their hour of jump at Skyzone, and a snack. Just like during lunch at school, if there are allergy concerns, just go ahead and pack something special for your child to enjoy while there. I will be attending the field trip as one of the chaperones, Principal Mr. Moeller is as well, along with our 2 other awesome parent volunteers. Closer to the date you will be receiving a link to complete the required Skyzone waiver, and the SLS permission form as well.
I am hopeful that this enrichment trip has spurred encouragement, and excitement for advancement in reading for your child. Thank you in advance for helping this to be a success!!

5 Ways to Make Today Great
"How you see the world determines the world you see. That's why it's especially important to start each day with a positive perspective. Remember... positivity is like a muscle, the more we exercise it, the stronger it gets."
I wanted to share with you all something I recently read. I hope these 5 "tips" will give you a boost when you need it the most. If nothing else sticks, just remember the last one.
Today tips from Jon Gordon:
1) Attack Today with Enthusiasm - If you want an exciting life, get excited about life. Many of us wake up and just go through the motions. Our lives become routine. It doesn't have to be like that. Remember your WHY today. We don't get burned out because of what we do. We get burned out because we forget why we do it.
2) Stay Positive - Instead of focusing on your problems, focus on your purpose. Instead of seeing yourself as a victim, see yourself as a hero. Heroes and victims both get knocked down but heroes get back up, and armed with optimism and a greater purpose they create a positive future.
3) Be Thankful - When you are grateful for the things in your life, big and small, you always seem to find more things to be grateful about.
4) Replace "Have to" with "Get To" - Live life as a gift, not an obligation. We GET TO, we don't HAVE TO. This simple shift can have a dramatic impact.
5) Be a Blessing to Others - We are blessed to be a blessing. This doesn't have anything to do with material things (although it can). It's about loving, serving and caring. It's about choosing to make a difference in the lives of others each and every day.

BINGO NEWS
St. Louis 5th Grade Girls vs St. Nicholas
The St. Louis 5th Grade Lady Cardinals completed an undefeated season with a 44-2 victory over St. Nicholas. All nine Lady Cardinals scored in their final game of the year led by Ella King with 14 points and Mimi Smith with 10. I want to say how proud I am of every single girl on the team. All I ever asked of them was to play hard and to play for each other and they went out and did this every single game.
I want to thank Mike Burkhart and Principal Moeller for giving me the opportunity to coach this extremely talented group of young ladies. I also want to thank the parents for bringing the girls to all the practices and traveling for the games. I look forward to next year and the bright future these young ladies have. Thank you!

SEI round 1 SLS vs South Ripley
Monday night the St. Louis Lady Cardinals traveled to South Ripley for round one of the SEI tournament.
The 7th grade lost round one to South with a final score of 4-36. Scoring for SLS was Lucy Abplanalp with 4pts. Nice job ladies.
The 8th grade Lady Cardinals won their first round to South in double overtime. With a final score of 56-51. Scoring for SLS were Kate Weber with 19pts, Catherine Streator with 12pts, Claire Saner with 8pts, Sadie Wachsmann and Ava Owens both with 5pts each, Lilly Schebler with 4pts, and Iza Wonnell with 3pts. These girls ALL pulled together and not once gave up on winning this game. We were able to make key plays in overtime to tie it and then finish it. Nice job.
Round 2 will be on Tuesday night at BMS 6:30 tip against Greendale.

SEI Round 2 SLS vs Greendale
Last night St. Louis' 8th grade Lady Cardinals played Greendale in round 2 of the tournament at Batesville Middle School. St. Louis won this game with a final score of 34-16. Scoring for SLS were Catherine Streator with 14pts, Claire Saner with 9pts, Ava Owens with 4pts, and Rhea Miller, Kate Weber, and Lilly Schebler all putting in 2pts. Playing a game more of our style and controlling the tempo was essential for us. We were able to stay in tune with our defensive end and our offense worked hard to take shots and draw fouls.
Nice job ladies on a solid round 2 win. SLS is off to Sunman Dearborn MS on Thursday for the final game against JCD.
