The SMS News
Happy Weekend Spartan Families:
This week we are highlighting the amazing work of our SMS News Team. This year the SMS News has worked hard to create a weekly, edited video broadcast to share with the Spartan community. Having learned a ton about what it takes to "do the news", the Team had one more surprise in store to close out the school year....a live broadcast!
After spending weeks and countless hours planning, prepping and practicing, the SMS News went live at 8:05am this morning. The team covered a wide array of topics and executed an exceptional broadcast that was streamed live on YouTube.
If you missed it live, you can catch a replay of their broadcast by clicking here.
Congratulations to Mr. Wolfe and the SMS News Team for a job well done!
Next week is our final 4 days of the school year. See below for some end of year calendar information:

A Heartfelt Thank You From the Learning Commons!
The Learning Commons staff would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the generous donations from our Shepard families! Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Legacy Book Fund, we were able to add nearly 100 books of all kinds--graphic novels, realistic fiction, non-fiction, etc.--to our library collection this spring! These books are on the shelves and ready for our students and staff to enjoy now and for many years to come.
Important D109 Information
School Fees 2022-23
Fees for the 2022 - 2023 school year are posted to Family Access and are due July 1. Please see detailed fee information here.
Current and Future 6th Graders (Camp Duncan Info)
In past years, students have gone to the YMCA Camp Duncan in the fall of their 5th-grade year. The pandemic made the experience unavailable to our current 6th graders and resulted in a delay for our current 5th graders. The middle schools will begin sponsoring the Camp Duncan trip beginning with the 2022-2023 school year!
6th grade is a big time of transition for students. Not only do two elementary schools merge, but the schedule and school day also look different. The team-building activities offered at Camp Duncan will serve as a great kickoff to middle school as students and staff get to know one another! In 2022-2023, both the 6th and 7th-grade classes at Shepard and Caruso will go to Camp Duncan so all students will have had the opportunity. In future years (2023 and beyond), the 6th-grade class will continue this 109 tradition. More information will be shared by the middle school principals at the beginning of the school year.
2022-2023 D109 Calendar
The official 2022 - 2023 School Year Calendar was approved by the Board of Education on November 19th, 2021. Please see the calendar on the DPS109 website.
