Important Before and After School Information
Most Cathcart Students use district bus transportation home from school. We only have a small parking area at Cathcart and do encourage our families to use the bus whenever possible.
** If this is NOT your plan, please let the office know before the first day of school **
All School gates will be open before and after the school day. When arriving during the school day, please use the center gate that leads directly to the school office where you will sign-in for late arrivals, early dismissals, or volunteering.
In the morning, starting at 8:23am, parents can drop students off in the southwest parking lot. Ms. Melinda will continue to supervise student drop off. We ask that parents not park in this lot. If you are walking onto campus, please park in the east parking lot and walk across the street.
At the end of the day, we will excuse bus riders as the buses arrive. If you are picking up your child, please wait outside the classroom until we announce Parent-Pickup. If you are picking up your child, it is important to be on campus before 3:15pm to safely pick up your student. Parents are responsible for supervising their child upon pick up.
If there is a change in your child’s after school transportation arrangements please be sure to contact the school office as early as possible in the day. You may send in a signed note or call the office in the morning (360-563-7075) to change arrangements. We ask for your help in this matter in order to get all of our kids safely home each day.
Bus Schedules
You can expect buses to be running late during the first few weeks of school as we take the extra time to assure all students are on the correct buses and drivers are learning new students and stops. It is not unusual for buses to be 30-60 minutes late arriving home during the first few weeks of school.
Vision screenings
Vision screenings for grades K-3 and grade 5 are scheduled for the week of September 25th. The screen will be done with a spot screening device and will take less than 30 seconds to perform. If your child wears glasses or contacts they will be needed for the exam, so please help ensure your child has them. No news is good news! If follow-up by a licensed vision specialist is needed, your child will come home with a referral form in their backpack. Please let me know if you have questions or concerns

Cathcart Cruisers Running Club
Cathcart Cruisers is a running/walking club held every Tuesday at lunch recess. Starting day will be Tuesday September 19th! The purpose of the club is to give students a positive activity to do at recess and to promote physical fitness.
Students will walk or run around the designated area on the school grounds. Each time they complete a lap, they will get a dot on their hand. Five laps equals one mile. Kindergartners run on a smaller track. For every 25 laps or five miles they run, the students will receive a paw charm. With their first paw they will receive a chain to wear as a bracelet or place on their backpack. Students who run 125 laps or more this year will be invited to an end of the year celebration. The top three boy & girl runners in each grade band and the top three overall runners will receive special prizes that will be awarded at the end of the year.
Any student, teacher or parent at Cathcart is welcome to participate.
