The Magic in the Middle
Arcola Intermediate School
Greetings to All Arcola Families!
We are moving into another phase/transition so I offer you the following:
- Reach out to your teachers, counselors and any staff when you have questions or need help.
- Take a moment each week and ask your child to show you their progress on power school.
- Find time to relax away from the screen through movement, music, laughter, rest and recovery.
Health, safety and mental and physical well-being come first so focus on that and the rest will fall into place. We care for all of you, we miss you and we are here for you! Let's ALL go green on Monday and show our Arcola strength and pride- #ARCOLASTRONG!
Be well and stay safe

Counselor Corner
Welcome to the last month 2020, a very challenging year for all of us!
If you were unable to meet with your student’s teachers during parent conference time or if you feel you need more time with them, please let your student’s school counselor know and we will be more than happy to make those arrangements for you to meet.
Saturday, December 5, is International Volunteer Day as mandated by the United Nations. It is viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organizations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values, and to promote their work among their communities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), United Nations agencies, government authorities and the private sector. We know that many of our parents, guardians, and students are involved in countless volunteer programs in our community and we thank you all for your efforts.
Thursday, December 10, is Human Rights Day, honoring the day that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris in 1948. It was at this assembly there are different cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world. It was proclaimed that as a common standard of achievements for all peoples and all nations that we are equal and universally protected. There are 30 articles and it is translated into 500 different languages!
Our message to you as parents and guardians as the holiday season is upon us is to reinforce the act of kindness. Yes, we all are different, but we coexist together in this community that we call our “home”. Let’s remember that despite our differences we all are equal and this declaration empowers us all as the principles enshrined in it are more relevant today as they were in 1948. Not only do we have to have our best interests at heart, but we need to have others interests at heart as well. Volunteering is a great way to show our children how to care for others in our community. If you are interested in finding a volunteer opportunity for your student, contact us for some ideas.
Finally, attached to this newsletter is the December issue of Middle Years, a newsletter focused on helping you improve your student’s success in school. We hope you enjoy reading it!
"Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home -- so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. [...] Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world."
-- Eleanor Roosevelt
