Mr. Taggart's Monday Update

Math Assessment This Wednesday

This week we'll have our math unit assessment on Wednesday. Tuesday evening they will come home with the unit review that they completed in class. We will have gone over their errors, but please feel free to go over it together and perhaps give some extra examples of any problems they may have missed the first time. The actual assessment will closely resemble the review.

Call me old-fashioned, but I'm not quite ready to give up on cursive completely! In fact, as part of their mid-year self-assessment, one child noted that she had not yet learned cursive in 4th grade. I went back to her goal sheet from the start of the year and she cited learning cursive as a 4th grade goal. I'd hate to think any of my kids would leave 4th grade without having the opportunity to learn something they expressly cited as a goal. So....I've listened! Between now and the end of the year, each day we will have a short cursive lesson. Since it's not technically part of the 4th grade curriculum, I will do so during snack so as not to cut into any other academic time. While they may not leave as experts, they will leave with the following:

  1. a working knowledge for the the reading and writing of cursive and
  2. confidence that their voice matters and that when they speak, I listen!
