German Corner
Weißer Spargel (White Asparagus)
In April 1989 my German host mother invited me over for dinner with the family. There was nothing unusual in her invitation except she said she had a treat for me. When dinner was served, I found myself with a plate of white asparagus in front of me. I was aghast! I had never seen white asparagus before. Germans LOVE weißer Spargel and my Deutsche Familie was no exception. Springtime marks white asparagus season. In fact, Germans love their white asparagus so much that every year some areas even crown a “Spargel Queen”. They love it because it is delicious! Unlike green asparagus, the white asparagus only sprouts for a short period between April and June. The Germans stock up and enjoy it while it lasts. Don’t shy away from the experience. It is truly “lecker”!! Check out these recipes and taste some springtime!

Designed to Inspire Potential November 2021 Bond
Mark your calendar for Thursday, April 22 at 6:30 PM. Join parents and families from across Weld RE-4 for a virtual presentation on a potential November 2021 bond initiative. Meeting access information is available at bond.weldre4.org on the home page.
