Sept. 26-30, 2016
Weekly Hellos
Our class raised $0 last week for the first week of "Fill the Boot." The class was unhappy about this on the wall of boots in the main hall. Please forgive me if they bug you to donate. I know you are busy. The money goes 100% to our school. Your children and the teachers directly benefit from all donations and any amount helps us reach our goal!
Check out the PTA video and online site!
We are setting learning goals this week in class.
Here is the conference sign up doc. I try very hard to accommodate your busy schedules. Please choose a time that you can definitely attend. I have moved my personal family schedule around to meet with you so being on time and in attendance is important to me and your child. Please do not delete another family's name. Thank you!!!
The Class Would Like...
*fall/Halloween stickers
*more staplers (THANK YOU SAM for the 2 new staplers!!)
*Mad Lib books to do in class during free time
*frisbees for recess
Class Events
Writing Workshop- Students love writing personal narratives (our own stories). We are learning to work with a writing partner and check to see if our stories stay on one small moment with a beginning, middle, and end. We revisited writing a friendly letter skills and will do a unit on poetry writing next.
Spelling- On hold until I have read with everyone. I like to move around the room and check in with students during this time.
Grammar- We have begun to deconstruct a complex sentence to discover the differences between these types of sentences compared to simple sentences. So far we've discovered there's a linking word between two simple sentences and some words are used as substitutes for the subject (pronouns). Score!
Math- We review for our first DCA then begin our multiplication unit for x5 and x10 strategies. I will pre-test students to see who understands this unit already (student and teacher choice on who does the pre-test). Anyone making 90% or better on the pre-test will be given alternative problems that relate to the daily concept but at a deeper level. Students will let parents know if they are working on the deeper concept level. I will not be sending out emails to inform you of this since it will change with each unit. I will pre-test on Wednesday (early release day).
Science- Student DCA scores are entered into HAC. Anyone with a low score has a comment connected to his/her grade.
Social Studies- We are studying about our country's Constitution and why it's an important document to us. We'll finish up by writing about our rights as third graders then about the rights of American citizens.
Handwriting- IF your child wants to write in cursive already, he/she will have to submit a page of writing for me to inspect for correct formation and connection. I don't want anyone to train his/her brain using the wrong way!!! If I agree with anyone, that kiddo will be able to write all work in cursive or print. Print is expected for students not prepared or properly forming cursive letters.
