Technology Reminders
- Make sure that all computers are shut down every afternoon (especially laptops in the mobile carts) so that they will receive updates that are automatically pushed from the county.
- Please start cleaning up your H: drive. Remove any personal or unneeded items so that we can free up some space on the shared server.
- Continue to put in the RequestIT tickets if equipment needs attention.
- Turn off projectors when you are not using them to help preserve the life of the light bulb.
- Take pictures of fun activities that are going on in your classroom and put them on the teacher drive.
- Don't forget about the technology help sheets that are posted on the staff blackboard site if you forget how to do something.
SOLs are Coming!
SOL testing will start on Monday, May 16 and will go until June 8. Click here to see the most up-to-date schedule. The computer lab will be used, therefore, it will be closed during testing. Classroom mobile laptops will be used for testing also. We will start collecting them on May 9 and they will not be returned until after testing is done. The testing locations will be as follow: large groups: Duplex B, Library, Computer Lab; small group locations are still being determined. A schedule which includes testing locations for each class will be coming soon!
Google Certified Teacher Opportunities
With the digital transformation plans well under way in FCPS and Fairview getting ready for it in the near future, now is a wonderful time for teachers to start thinking about how they will implement new strategies in their classrooms. With the emphasis on blended learning and student centered learning, Google Apps for education is a wonderful collaborative tool that is available to all students and staff. There are two on-line training modules: Level 1 - Fundamentals which will take about 12 hours to complete; for those who are new to Google Apps. This course will teach best strategies for integrating Google in your classroom; and Level 2 - Advanced which will take about 9 hours for those who are beyond the basics. This course will teach cutting edge strategies for integrating Google into your classroom. At the end of each level, you will have the opportunity to take an exam ($10 for level 1 and $299 for level 2). If you pass both exams, you will receive a certificate for being a Google Certified Teacher. If you do not wish to get the certification, you can still do the trainings for FREE. Click here to learn more about this great opportunity.
