Fix It Day: June 22, 8-10:15 am @ Fairgrounds

All families are asked to come to out and help fix up the fairgrounds! We will be weed eating, mowing around the barn, painting, replacing rotted boards in the barns, and fixing stalls.

Showmanship Saturday: June 22, 10:30-Noon @ Fairgrounds

Be ready to show at county fair! Senior showman and adult helpers will share showmanship tips and tricks for different animal species. Attend three showmanship sessions to attend, each session will last 30 minutes and participants will rotate sessions. Both large and small animal species will be available to choose from. This event will be held following fairgrounds fix it day and everyone should plan on attending!

Fairgrounds Usage

  • The fairgrounds is off limits to ALL 4-H activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays for league golf.
  • When exiting the fairgrounds, last vehicle out needs to shut the south gate.

Quality Assurance: Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA)

The program costs $12 per youth, the 4-H Foundation has purchased a coupon code to cover the cost of the class. Contact the Extension Office for the code.

The YQCA deadline for all 4-Hers is June 14, so please plan ahead and contact the Extension Office with any questions. After completing the modules, drop off or email your certifications.

Scrapies Tag

The official identification for COUNTY and STATE FAIR for all classes of goats and sheep is a Scrapie Tag. The tag may be metal or plastic. It is the family’s responsibility to ensure that their animal has a scrapie tag BEFORE the deadline. Please plan ahead as tags may take 2 to 3 weeks to arrive after they are ordered.
  • If you currently have Scrapies Tags, please tag all animals yourself before June 5 (for market animals) or June 15 (for feeder, breeding, and dairy animals).
  • If you do not have Scrapies Tags, before you can order them you must have a premise ID number and a Flock ID number, which the Nebraska Department of Agriculture can assign to you. Scrapie Tags may either be the metal tags provided by the Department of Agriculture or you may purchase tags from Allflex. Nebraska Department of Agriculture 402-434-2300.

Market Sheep & Goat Weigh In Day: June 5 starting at 5:30pm @ Fairgrounds

All market sheep and goat need to have a scrapies tag in their ear or the family needs to have one available to tag the animal at weigh in.

Open to Clover Kids (5-7), Cost $10

Build a boat, design a bird feeder, create a science experiment, and learn about the water cycle as we explore the basic needs of plants and animals (air, water, food, and space).

The Making of a Super Hero

June 24, 1-3 pm Club House at the Fairgrounds in Pawnee City

Open to Clover Kids (5-7), Cost $15

Fly, run, or crash over to this workshop to create your super hero cape, make a side kick puppet, and bake a healthy snack.

A Healthy Me

July 8, 1-3 pm Club House at the Fairgrounds in Pawnee City

Open to Clover Kids (5-7), Cost $10

Learn how to keep yourself happy and healthy with hands-on safety activities.

4-H Workshops (Registration)

3-D Printing

June 13, 2-4 pm Club House at the Fairgrounds in Pawnee City

Open to 4-H’ers (8-18), Cost $10

Learn about how a 3-D printer works and create the code to print a model. As the printing process takes time, models will be printed after the workshop and families will be notified when they are ready to be picked up.

It is never too early to develop healthy spending habits. Create a savings bank, learn about goal setting, and the importance of saving.

Home Environment

Explore color theory and texture with unique projects such as a tie dyed pillowcase, finger knitted bracelet, and a picture transferred to wood.

Family Genealogy & Pawnee County History

July 18, 5-6:30 pm, Pawnee County Historical Society

Open to 4-H’ers (8-18) and their families, Cost FREE

Dive into history while you learn about your own family tree and spend some time learning about the history of Pawnee County while completing fair projects.

Animals Inside and Out

July 22, 1-4 pm Club House at the Fairgrounds in Pawnee City

Open to 4-H’ers (8-18), Cost $15

Spend the day exploring about the different body systems of animals in the fun, messy, and sometimes gross workshop.

Static Challenge

The Static Challenge for 2019 will be Stepping Stones! 4-H members are invited to show their creativity and University of Nebraska pride by creating a stepping stone that represents 150 years of University of Nebraska. Stepping stones will be exhibited at local counties fairs, and one stepping stone from each county will be chosen to be displayed at the Nebraska State Fair at the Raising Nebraska landscape.

  • Stepping stones may be made out of any materials. Keep in mind that fairgoers may step on the stones while on display, therefore, they should be durable.
  • Stepping stones should be 8 inches by 8-inch squares.
  • Design: N|150 themed or In Our Grit, Our Glory themed

Multi-County Shows & Contests

Horticulture & Wildlife Contest
  • Partnering with Johnson & Nemaha Counties. To participate, youth must register for the contest by June 1.

Shooting Sports Contest, July 6 (Shotgun) & July 8 (Archery)
  • Partnering with Richardson County. To participate, youth must register for the contest by June 1. Youth must have participated in at least 4 hours of training with a certified instructor before the day of the contest.

Dog Show, July 29 @ 8:30am, Syracuse
  • Partnering with Otoe County. To participate, youth must have their animals ID'ed and complete an entry form by June 15.

Food Revue, July 15 @ 6:30pm, Union Bank basement in Pawnee City

  • Pawnee County Contest. To participate, youth must complete the an entry form by July 9. (Entry Form)
