This week at the pool...
KMSC news for 8/26 - 9/2/2019
Our season will be coming to an end on Labor Day, September 2nd.
I know that it was a surprise to all of you that we had to operate on a reduced schedule for the last three weeks of the summer. With 20/20 hindsight, I should should have made that decision earlier so that I could engage the entire Board as well as the general membership to develop a schedule that could accommodate most members. I am determined that we will not find ourselves in a similar situation next summer. I appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to keep our Club affordable and attractive.
Although we are not finishing the season as I would have liked, there are some positives I’d like to mention. Our Full Moon/ First Moon Landing Ladies’ Night had over two dozen attendees, despite the stormy weather forecast! The conversations and consumption of food and beverages continued unabated despite having to retreat to the men’s room (wow...there’s so much SPACE in here!) and the front porch. We had more ‘Roos and Joeys join our swim team! Our swim team is a huge source of energy for our Club, not only from the excitement of the meets themselves but also because committed Swim Team parents are the best source of committed Board members who actively work to make our Club the best place it can be.
After the Club closes for the season, we will start discussing plans for the 2020 season. By “we” I mean not only the Board but the rest of our members as well – your suggestions, as well as your time and energy, are welcome. The more of our members who are actively involved in the life and management of our Club, the better! Please watch for the date of your Board's September meeting to be announced soon and commit to attending it.
As you may recall, with Leonard Wagman’s death we not only lost a friend and a long-time devoted member of our Club, we also lost the Chair of our Nominating Committee. This position still is vacant. The Board needs to fill it with one of its existing directors, according to our bylaws. That person and the committee need your help to recruit candidates who are willing to develop the vision for and expend the time and energy required to meet our pool's new challenges. Every officer and multiple board seats will be up for election at the Annual Meeting in mid-March.
Thank you, and have a great fall, winter, and spring!
- Cynthia D. Brandt Campagna, KMSC President
