Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at Olmsted Falls Intermediate School
As stated on PBIS.org, "Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day." PBIS promotes a more positive school climate, safer learning environments, and more trusting and respectful student-teacher relationships. In order to enhance our current PBIS programming at Olmsted Falls Intermediate School we have added new incentives and rewards for positive behavior with a focus on our PBIS expectations: Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Kind.
On Thursday, October 31st, our staff and students joined together for a Kindness Pep-Rally. OFIS is working hard to spread "kindness" throughout our building. Students were all given "Choose Kind" t-shirts gifted by an anonymous donor. They were also greeted by OFMS band members and the bulldog mascot! Students participated in "Minute to Win It" games and our Superintendent, Dr. Jim Lloyd, was the host!
It is important to model and practice positive behaviors at school. Students receive positive reinforcement through encouragement and positive relationships with others, as well as being recognized when they are following the PBIS expectations. Students will get Bulldog Bucks for being safe, kind, responsible and respectful. They can then purchase items at our Dollar Dawg school store, and enter raffles for fun prizes and experiences.
We will continue to update you and share information throughout the school year about our PBIS programming.
Thank you for your support!

November Counseling Lesson & Home Connection
The Brain and Your Emotions
Teaching students about the brain helps build the foundation of emotional intelligence and self-regulation. This can positively impact student success and provides vocabulary that can be used to help verbalize feelings and needs.
It takes practice to stay calm in the face of a conflict or problem. During our monthly classroom lessons, students will learn and practice strategies to help them work through day to day emotions.
Coping strategies:
Create a calm space
Take mindful deep breaths using an expandable ball
Take a mental vacation - visualize a calm, happy place
Think positive - choose an empowering phrase to say to oneself such as "I can do this."
Listen to relaxing music
Exercise
