Good afternoon Havel families,
I hope this message finds you healthy and safe and that you were able to enjoy the sunshine and warmer weather this past week. My message this week is to keep you up to date on the change in our delivery of instruction via the Schoology platform. Since the Governor’s closing of schools our UCS curriculum director and administration have been working on the online learning plan that has to be submitted to the MISD and to the State of Michigan.
While face-to-face instruction has been suspended, education will continue for students at Havel. Teachers will be using district-created curriculum to introduce new content through Schoology accounts.
Routine and stability are important to our students. Teachers will begin to introduce new content in a format that will mirror the school day. Monday through Thursday, teachers will provide reading and math instruction each morning followed by science or social studies instruction. Afternoon activities will be focused on art, music, physical education or the media center, depending on the day of the week. On Fridays, our teachers will be providing additional support to students on content introduced during the week. The schedule will be available through the Schoology account.
Attendance and participation are critical for student success. Our teachers will be monitoring attendance and providing assessment on the subject areas being taught. Beginning April 20, students will earn credit for completed online assignments and assessments. I know many of you have been submitting work in Schoology, however for those new to this expectation please see the link below for directions and guidance. I will send you additional information on second semester grading in a separate communication.
If your family needs devices or access, please let me know by responding to this email or calling the school.
As the use of digital devices becomes a greater part of our learning environment, we remind families for the importance of students being good digital citizens. Our school remains committed to promoting the effective and responsible use of technology. This includes promoting appropriate behavior and using digital citizenship skills when communicating on-line. We have more digital citizenship resources available on-line at this link.
Personal Items
We have heard from families who have students who wish to pick up materials that are currently at school. Our building is currently closed. Once the restriction has been lifted, we will let you know so that we can set up an appointment to gather the material.
