The Update
Learning to create a better world!
The Head's Message
The first Update of the academic year provides an opportunity to welcome our new students and parents in Year 7 and Year 12, as well as those who have joined us in other years.
Year 7 have made a really positive start and the recent music concert gave us our first glimpse of the musical talent that will be on show for the next seven years; we weren’t disappointed! They performed with great energy and the solo performances were superb. If you want to enjoy more Churston music then please join us at the Christmas Concert at All Saints Church in Brixham on the 5th December. From the 10th – 12th December we have our Lower School production of a Christmas Carol and it would be great to see as many students and parents as possible at both ‘festive’ events.

The Head's Message - Examinations
The examination results in the summer were outstanding and our congratulations go to all the students and their parents. Year 13 students set a new school record with 73% of all entries being A*-B. All the A2 students deserve a mention but special tribute must go to Matt Harvey, Abbie Maiden, Jessica North and Jack Walker who all achieved a minimum of three A* grades. Year 11 also performed superbly with 60% of entries being either an A* or A. Izzy Giles, Megan Stone, Caroline Trewern, Izzy Byford, Sophie Caseldine, Hannah Grimes, Anna Hargreaves, Ella Irwin, Freya Reevell, Daniel Rumford and Grace Tabb all achieved a minimum of 9 A* grades.
Since September Churston students have achieved some stunning success outside the academic curriculum. Becky Ley achieved top ranking nationally at U16 tennis; George Honnor has been selected for the National Gymnastics Squad; Lexi Dart and Matt Birkett won the South West Cross Country Championships; Fin and Daniel Armstrong have been selected for the National Sailing Squad; Colm Craig won the Torbay Poetry Competition; Hannah Vetterlein’s entry was chosen by author Dan Freedman from a list of hundreds entered nationally and Aiden Dingley was voted Torbay Volunteer of the Year. On the international stage Jordan Rowland became European Champion in Tae Kwon Do. These are just a few of the highlights from a long list of student achievement.

The Head's Message - Smooth Start
Given that we have large numbers of new students may I take this opportunity to remind all parents of the one-way system that operates in Greenway Road. The safety of our students is paramount and we are reliant on parents driving and parking sensibly outside the school. At the beginning (from 8.30am) and end of the day we ask that parents approach the school by driving up Greenway Road from Manor Road in Galmpton village.
Finally, may I thank all the students, staff, parents and governors for a very smooth start to term and we look forward to an even greater level of success in the future.
