The Grizzly Growl
February😍 Edition
PRINCIPAL'S LETTER
February 2023
Greetings Grizzly families, and welcome to Semester 2 of the 2022-2023 school year.
We are excited for our seniors, as they embark on their final semester of high school. I am pleased to report that the students are seemingly getting back into school mode after several years of managing their learning in person and virtually. We appreciate the reinforcement by parents and guardians of appropriate school behavior and the importance of attending school with academic effort.
Our teachers are preparing informational welcome videos for all semester 2 classes for parents to view at your convenience. These 5-7 minute videos will help introduce the teacher, the course, class procedures, communications, and their course requirements. Please reach out to the teacher directly if you need assistance in any class. Our school counselors are also available to assist students in need. The best method to reach the counselor is to email them for an appointment. Scheduling for underclassmen for the 2023-2024 school year will begin soon. Please give the scheduling process careful consideration when choosing classes, as our faculty is staffed in April based on these course selections.
Please review our school calendar for many exciting opportunities at Grassfield High School for all students, including Black History Month, Military Child Month, spring athletics, spring concerts, and Laps for Lymphoma. Additionally, we will be celebrating the 16th graduating class of Grassfield High School, the Class of 2023, with the Senior Banquet, Senior Spring Jamboree, Senior Prom, and graduation.
Thank you for your continued support. Please call or email any member of the administrative team with any questions, Suggestions, comments, or concerns, as we are here to serve you and your child(ren).
Have a great February, and as always, Go Grizzlies!
Proud To Be a Grizzly,
Mike Perez

Spring Musical: Percy Jackson's Lightning Thief
Auditions for the spring musical will take place in February.
- Dates are:
- Friday, February 24 (Dance)
- Tuesday, February 28 (Acting/Singing)
- March 1 (Callbacks)
This year's musical will be Percy Jackson's Lightning Thief. Percy Jackson is a teenager who always seems to get into trouble, no matter how hard Percy tries to be good. When expelled from school for the sixth time, Percy's mother decides that it is time for Percy to know the truth. The Greek gods are real and, what’s more, Percy is a demigod, the child of Poseidon. Along with fellow demigod Annabeth (the child of Athena) and best friend and protector Grover (who happens to be a Satyr), Percy must go on an epic quest to retrieve Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt and prevent war amongst the gods. The quest turns into an epic adventure, with the Furies, Medusa, and Ares (the god of war) among those wanting to stop Percy. With time running out, Percy soon discovers that nothing is normal when you’re a demigod.
From the Nurse's Desk
Attention Junior Parents,
MEN ACYW-meningococcal vaccination is required for 12th grade entry. One dose at age 16 or older should be provided by the parent to the school nurse, in order for your child to attend their senior year. We are asking that you share a record of this documentation with your school nurse, as soon as your child has received this vaccination, and prior to the end of the current school year. If your child received this vaccination prior to the age of 16, they will need a second dose after the age of 16, which must be turned in. This is a Virginia state regulation that we must abide by. Your understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated by your school nurse!
