DISTRICT SPOTLIGHT
Urbana High School: Attendance Challenge!
Urbana High School kicked off a three-week attendance boost initiative heading into the Thanksgiving holiday break, turning Mondays into a donut delight for high-achieving homerooms! Homerooms exceeding the 93% attendance threshold for the week scored delicious donuts the following Monday morning. Partnering with the local Wal-Mart, some donuts were donated and a discount was offered. Fostering a culture of consistent attendance and creating a positive learning environment, Urbana High School is hopeful its creative initiatives will continue to engage students for increased attendance and performance.
REGION SPOTLIGHT
K-5 Literacy Leader Kick-Off
Literacy Leaders in Grades K-5 spent the day collaborating at SST6. Our audience consisted of building principals, curriculum leaders, literacy coaches, and teachers. Participants dove into the first section of Implementing Ohio's Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement: A Guide for School Leaders which focused on Effective Literacy Instruction. The knowledge in the room created a renewed energy for connections and understanding of evidence-based literacy practices within our region. Our next session will be virtual on January 17, 2024 from 9–11 AM. Please consider joining us as we continue navigating the Implementation Guide focusing on Shared Leadership.

Learn how to strengthen support of the abilities and needs of children with deafblindness,

Literacy Response to Questions
We at SST6 have had many questions from districts regarding the Third Grade Reading Guarantee (TGRG), including RIMPs, Dyslexia Screening for students with significant disabilities, including multiple disabilities and High Dosage tutoring. Effective immediately, to streamline communication regarding state literacy legislative requirements and policy, districts should directly contact the appropriate department of the Literacy Team. The Department has several email boxes to assist in providing answers to policy questions in writing to districts. The following graphic was created to help you determine where your questions should be directed: See graphic for details.
Confirm roster verification participation by Dec. 22
Superintendents with current contact information in the Ohio Educational Directory System will receive an email from support@ohio-k12.help Nov. 27 to confirm participation in value-added roster verification by Dec. 22. The roster verification schedule and resources are available now.
Reminder:
December is the time for completing the Ohio Deafblind Census Registration and the Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students for Ohio. As determined by OEDS, the Special Education director will be notified of the Ohio Deafblind Census and Superintendents will be notified of the Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students for Ohio.
