Eagan High School Traffic Safety
August 31, 2022
A Message and Traffic Safety Update from Eagan High School and the Eagan Police Department
Updated Safety Message - August, 2022 Back to School!
Parents, staff and student drivers can help improve traffic safety at Dakota Hills Middle School and Eagan High School. Dakota County, the City of Eagan and District 196 have worked to reconstruct and improve access to our campus.
- Pedestrians and bicyclists should cross Diffley Road on the west side of the Braddock Trail and Diffley Road roundabout, or on the west side of the Daniel Drive and Diffley Road roundabout. Crossing guards are present there during the elementary, middle school and high school arrival and dismissal times.
- The intersections and crosswalks on Braddock Trail and Ventnor Avenue, as well as Pennsylvania Avenue, have pedestrian activated lights for use 24/7. Even with those lights, please use caution before stepping out.
- Eagan Police are actively enforcing the traffic rules for safety.
- Drivers MUST stop for pedestrians - this is the law.
- Increased numbers of bicyclists may be traveling as the weather allows, please use great caution and yield to the students.
- There are pedestrian crossing signs that are activated by the person waiting to cross and flashing for safety. These are also available in non-school hours.
- District 196 will continue to bus students from the south side of Diffley Road into the schools.
- Parent drop off and pick up for students is either in the South entry or the East entry. Please drop students off at a sidewalk, not in the parking lot. Also, in the "horseshoe" drive at the South entry, do not drop students from the thru traffic, or inside lane. They should not be dropped off except on the outside lane and sidewalk.
- When students are departing from a vehicle it should always be onto the sidewalk – not across a lane of traffic.
- Bike racks at the high school are located at the East Entry. Do not attach bikes to trees- use the bike racks.
- We now, due to Daylight Savings Time, have later sunrise. Use caution to watch for pedestrians and yield to them.
You can help improve safety along Diffley Road, Braddock Trail and in the area around our schools:
- Slow down. If the pedestrian crossing lights are flashing it demands that you stop.
- Posted speed limits are enforced.
- Pedestrians – please use caution before entering a crosswalk.
- Drivers - don’t use your cellphone while driving- avoid distractions while driving.
- The new access road from the Daniel Drive roundabout down the hill into the South lot is for vehicles ONLY – not for bike riders or pedestrians.
- Use the new pedestrian paved pathway from Diffley Road near Braddock Trail for walking and biking, away from the traffic.
- At the intersection of Ventnor Avenue and Braddock Trail as well as the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Braddock Trail there are pedestrian activated lights at the crosswalks. Please stop when those lights are flashing.
- Please do your part to help keep everyone safe.
- Thank you!
