Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of May 23, 2021
A Message From Our Principal
Greetings:
It was an exciting week as we began to see mandates lifted from the governor and the idea of a normal prom and graduation just ahead of us! On June 3 we will celebrate Egg Harbor Township High Schools Prom! While it wasn’t easy to plan with all the changes along the way, we are at the point where it will be an awesome High School experience as it has always been. Thanks to all for their patience and understanding as we have navigated through this pandemic to provide the best we can for all of our students!
Speaking of graduation, please check the web page under graduation, as things have changed there as well. This constant changing of plans has not been uncommon for the past year and a half as we try to keep up with the mandates and lifted mandates that seem to be a weekly occurrence.
One of the governor's restrictions remains in place, and that is requiring mask wearing in the educational setting. The good news is as of June 1, the High School will no longer require our students to wear the face shields. They will not be mandatory, so it is a personal choice if a student or teacher prefers to continue to wear a face shield. But again, until further notice, masks are required to be worn inside the High School building.
Congratulations to Mrs. Christa Delaney (Science teacher) for an awesome presentation during the Sustainable Summit this past week! Ms. Delaney is one of the High Schools major contributors to the green schools and keeping EHTHS on the map as a Certified Sustainable New Jersey School! She is a member of the District Green Team, the High School Green Team and the Municipal Green Team for Egg Harbor Township! We are proud of her contributions to the High School, the community and the State of New Jersey! See the presentation below, she starts on Slide 42!
Our AP students have completed their AP testing and will now wait for their scores to come in. Best of luck to all of our AP students for a job well done!
The final two EHT Idol competitors are battling for the top honor! Best of luck to both Gabe Depaor and Alexandria Ciurlino. They have both had some fabulous performances. I know it will be a difficult choice!
Just a notice to all virtual students, we will need your books returned to us for inventory. On June 10 and 11 from 12:45 - 4:00 collections will take place in the main gymnasium. If you have any issues with these return dates please contact your assistant principal. Chrome books will be collected at a later date.
Looking ahead, we have Senior awards on June 2, EHTHS Prom on June 3, and final SAT testing of the year on June 5.
School is closed on Monday May 30 to honor Memorial Day. If you have time, stop out to see our marching band in the Memorial Day parade on Monday May 30, which begins at 10:00 AM. The parade route starts at Ocean Heights and Zion Road and finishes at Veterans Park, by the library, with a short ceremony.
Until next week, have a beautiful three day weekend! Stay safe, be well, continue to dream of the possibilities ahead of us, be happy and smile at someone!

MSA CRO Hears Alumni Success Story
On 5/21/21, the Medical Science Academy senior Clinical Research and Observation students were treated to an EHTHS alumnus guest speaker via Google Meet, Hilton Caleb Braithwaite IV!
Hilton told his story of how he unpredictably decided to attend the University of Pittsburgh (https://www.pitt.edu/) for his undergraduate studies, the reasons for his present gap year and his early decision acceptance into Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (http://njms.rutgers.edu) where he will be starting this August.
Hilton gave his 5 top recommendations that our students can do to be successful in undergraduate school and to increase their chances of getting accepted into Medical School.
Mr. Braithwaite's honesty in sharing his personal story to help our students attain their goals in future college and career pursuits made for an awesome guest presentation experience. Thank you for your contribution!

BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Boys Volleyball closed out the regular season with a dramatic win over CAL rival Pleasantville 17-25, 25-22, 27-25. The gym was full of energy as it took the Eagles three sets to take down the Greyhounds. EHT got out to a slow start but middle hitters Ron Sansom and Michael Barnes ripped off a combined eleven kills and five blocks while Ivan Wang and Alex Adair nailed six combined aces. With the victory, EHT completed its 7-0 sweep of CAL teams- ACIT, St. Augustine, Hammonton, and Pleasantville outscoring them 14-1 in sets and 369-273 in points, an average victory by 6.4 points per match.
On Tuesday, the team traveled to Paul VI for the first round of the South Jersey Playoff tournament. Entering as the 20th seed, the Eagles played 13th ranked Paul VI . In what was an high energy match, both teams came out swinging early. After trading points on kills, aces, and service errors, Paul VI separated and close out the first set 25-16. Andy Auyeung was a defensive nightmare for Paul VI digging ten balls throughout the match. Speaking of monster performances, Ron Sansom terrorized the opposition with huge two blocks and three kills. The second set saw the Eagles start on fire! Nick Fortis began with a 6-0 serving run to start the second set including an ace. EHT extended the lead to 8-3 and later went on a run to get the score to 17-7 off of a number of kills from Alec Barnes and Scott Hiltner. Ivan Wang distributed the ball to all of his hitters keeping the Paul VI's blockers guessing. EHT pushed the score to 20-12 with all the momentum on their side. Then the unthinkable happened; Paul VI begin the most improbable comeback. Chipping away at EHT's lead, they pulled the score to 20-15 and then 21-20 with timely blocks, strong serving, and lucky defensive determination. EHT tried with all its might to hold the lead, but Paul VI pulled out the victory 25-22 in what was EHT's most exciting match of the season. Congratulations to the team on a successful season. The team finished with a 7-6 record their inaugural season. The boys were able to do this all while competing against top-ten teams in South Jersey such as Williamstown (2), Eastern (5), and Kingsway (6). Congratulations to the team: Ivan Wang (captain), Edward Al-Nammour, Michael Barnes, Ayotoye Oguntuase, Jacob Valenzuela, Nicholas Fortis, Scott Hiltner, Andy Auyeung, Brandon Dao, Ron Sansom, Alexander Adair, Alec Barnes, and Michael Nammour.
Additionally, over the weekend some members of the boys volleyball team teamed up with the Margate Terrapin Rescue Project to help create roadside barriers to protect nesting turtles along the Margate Causeway. Here are some pictures of the morning.

Haddonfield Distance Night @ Haddonfield Memorial High School
vs. New Jersey Schools
From Coach McLaughlin
"Fun night at the Haddonfield Distance Night for the distance squad!
The night started off with Senior Aidan Winkler running vs South Jersey's top 800 runners. He came in 11th place but his time of 1:58.66 sets him up for a great seed in next weeks SJ Group 4 Sectional.
To end the evening, Senior Nico Valdivieso ran a resilient and really thrilling race to get second place in a PR of 9:42.1! That time puts Nico as fourth for EHT’s all time 3200 list!
In the mile, Steve Eggly and Ricky Axelsson both PR’d with Steve running 5:08.1 and Ricky coming agonizingly close to breaking 5 with a 5:00.3!
The freshmen started the day though with Amir Hamlin getting seventh in the freshman 800 with a PR of 2:14.2 and Chase Mazur getting fourth with a 2:09.1!!
Awesome work guys! Next time we’re on the track will be for an Atlantic County Championship on Thursday! Keep chopping!! #ehtpride 🪓🦅"

Baseball has clinched at least a share of the CAL United Division Title. EHT can still win the division, and will have to wait for the result of Ocean City’s games vs Hammonton and VIneland. An Ocean City loss would give the Eagles the United Division title outright.
EHT 14 Absegami 2
The Eagles scored eight runs in the first on its way to a 14-2 victory over Absegami on Thursday. The offensive onslaught by EHT was led by David Appolonia, Jason Hill, Tristin Trivers, Braeden Thies, Ethan Dodd, and Appolonia, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Gus Buzby was credited with the victory for EHT. The righty lasted five innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out five

Gus Buzby pitched EHT to victory. The pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out two and walking zero.
EHT 2 St. Augustine 0
Justin Sweeney was brilliant on the pitcher's mound on Tuesday, as Sweeney threw a no-hitter to lead EHT past St. Augustine Prep 2-0. Dave Appolonia went yard in the first inning, his 6th Home Run of the year. Appolonia led EHT with two hits in two at bats.

Oakcrest JV Tournament
Game 1 vs. Vineland JV - EHT capitalized on prior scouting and took advantage of first pitch fastballs to jump out to an early lead. Big hits from Eli Gordy, Mike Piskun and Jack Hyde and solid pitching from Lawson McIntosh helped secure a 6-4 victory
Game 2 vs. Gloucester City JV - EHT utilized carryover energy from an unexpected win vs. a more experienced team (Vineland) to get off to a fast start- scoring 9 runs in our first at bat in game 2. Solid Pitching from Christian Viechenrat and excellent defense throughout the game helped EHT secure a trip to the semi finals. Final score of 14-6 was helped by big hits from McIntosh, Piskun, Salsbery and Gordy.
Semi Final Game vs. Cedar Creek JV -A slow start with a big finish helped propel EHT Frosh Squad to the Championship game. After 6 games in 7 days the squad was a little tired, but woke up big time with a 7 run outburst in the 4th inning. We added on 4 more runs in the 6th to win the game 11 to 0. Christian Viechenrat pitched a complete game shut out for the win. Nate Harte and Ryan Baronowitz had big hits in RBI situations to propel the offense.
Championship game- Our early game finished early and provided us the opportunity to scout our opponent for the championship game. We watched as Saint Augustines Prep JV feasted on fastballs to score 7 runs in the last inning to win the game and advance vs. Gloucester Catholic’s JV. Using this information we instructed our pitchers (McIntosh and Gevers) to use breaking pitches often. The prep jumped out to an early lead and tacked on to take a 4 to 0 lead into the bottom of the 4th. We talked to the squad as they came into hit in the bottom of the 4th. We fired them up and had the top of the order lead the way to a 3 run inning. Then we scored 2 more the next inning to take our first lead 5 to 4. The Prep scored 2 more runs to re-capture the lead heading into the bottom of the 7th. Frosh squad did not quit and plated 3 runs to win the final game andTournament with an 8 to 7 win vs. a stunned Prep team. Mac and Gevers pitched great and Jack Hyde walked it off with an RBI single to left field.
