Rising Sun Inn Fundraising Dinner
Sponsored by the Ann Arundel Chapter of the DAR
Help us raise funds for the historic Rising Sun Inn, Crownsville, MD
The Rising Sun was built c. 1753 by Edward Baldwin, member of the prominent Anne Arundel family. It is also significant for its location on a major colonial road between Baltimore and Annapolis. This road was used by Generals Washington and Rochambeau during the Revolution, and continued to be an important north-south route into the 20th century. It served as a tavern from 1785 to 1793 and is also important for its association with the early-19th century owners, Richard and Mary Caton, the son-in-law and daughter of Charles Carroll, the Signer. And finally, since 1916 the Rising Sun has been owned by the Anne Arundel Chapter of the D.A.R.
Rising Sun Inn is on the National Register of Historic Places and is open to the public the 2nd Sunday of each month from 1pm to 4pm. Monies earned from the fundraising dinner will be used for the upkeep of the inn.
