Literacy Corner

This week we introduced the students to their first word wall word, my. It is important that you review the word wall words with your child at home because these are words they will see in almost everything that they read. We also began our phonics program Letterland. The class was introduced to the all the characters (letters) in Letterland. After all characters have been introduced, we will get to know each character more closely, while focusing on their sound. Please use the Letterland link below to understand the Letterland phonics program.

In reading we continued our unit on Pete the Cat. We reviewed positional words and print concepts from last week. After reading the Pete the Cat books this week, we worked on sequencing of a story, as well as character traits. The students really enjoy reading Pete the Cat books. Please continue going over all skills taught during reading and phonics with your child.

Next week we will introduce a new word wall word and finish introducing all of the Letterland characters. We will begin our unit on "All About Me" and "Family".

Math Lab

This week we introduced the students to numbers 1-10. We will focus on number identification for a while. Please make sure you are counting with your child nightly. They will need to count to 25 by the end of the quarter.

Parental FYI...

Beginning Monday, September 12th, parents will no longer be allowed to walk their kindergarteners to class. All children will report to the gym, unless they are eating lunch at school, they will go to the cafeteria. The students will be released from the gym to go to their classroom with their class.

Please remember to send in your child's snack money. We have a snack in class daily. We ask that you not send in extra snacks. We ask that you pay for it monthly ($8), quarterly ($18) or yearly ($72) to help use our time more for instruction.

If you have not already done so, please send in a family picture of your child wi their family. We like to share and bring our family pictures in to our class family so we will have a little bit of home here. Please send a picture that is no bigger than 5x7. You may send it in in a picture frame, if you would like. They will be returned at the end of the year.

If your child is a lunch boxer, please send items that your child is able to open on their own. If they like foods that they are unable to open, we will teach them how to open them independently. Please practice opening the items at home, as well.

You should have received a personal email from me. Please reply back so we can make sure we have your correct email address.
