iPads in the Classroom
May 11, 2016
One of the newest approaches to using technology in the classroom is called the 1-to-1 initiative.
What are the advantages?
There are many advantages to having iPads in the classroom. Teachers that use iPads will have much more resources to look at when creating their lesson plan. The teacher will be able to engage their students better if they are using technology in their lesson. Some technology will give you immediate feedback on how the students are doing in the classroom. Students grades might get better if you are using technology in your classroom because students love technology. Technology will let the students go at their own pace, students generally do not do will if they are being rushed to do something. Technology also allows students to be more creative in their work. Technology will let the students feel as though they are in control of their own learning and will help them improve themselves.
There are many advantages to having iPads in the classroom. Teachers using iPads will get immediate feedback from the students work. She will also be able to see if the students are participating in class. iPads in the classroom will simplify the collection and retention of the students work and other materials. Using an iPad will let your students share their work with not only other students at their school but also people from all over the world. Having an iPad will save paper and money. Using an iPad will get and keep the students attention and let teachers customize student learning.
Digital Textbooks!
I wish we had digital textbooks when I went to school. Instead, we had to carry around these big and hard textbooks, that would hurt our back and shoulders. Digital textbooks will make it easier for children to carry their school books. Digital textbooks will make it easier for your students to find information in the book and to "highlight" the parts that are important. Another great benefit to having digital textbooks is they are not as expensive as hardback books. Digital books are also more up to date on the information in them.
Having an iPad for every student will allow them to have digital textbooks instead of carrying around a bunch of heavy textbooks. Even though there is not much research on this we already know digital learning with laptops has led to positive educational outcomes. Digital textbooks are cost effective, people who bought from classbook.com saw savings of 60%, on average, by replacing traditional textbooks with digital devices. Digital books give teachers ownership over their lesson plan. Digital books are more current than printed textbooks.
Special need and accessibility features
Technology also helps Special needs students. There are many apps out there that are made specificity for SpEd students. These apps help the students communicate with other students and it will show them how to act in certain situations. Some apps help the students learn something in a different way. I could go on and on about how technology helps SpEd students. If you want more information click the link or scan the QR code.
Built-in modifications that make it easier for users with visual, auditory, or other physical disabilities to use iPads. The Apple store has apps designed for people with disabilities that further support its accessibility features. These apps are highlighted on the Apple store's own special education section.
What can you do with an iPad?
What can you not do with an iPad? There are many great things you will be able to do with an iPad in your classroom. You can use an iPad as an assessment tool, station table, quizzes, educational games, and much more. If you are using an iPad you can get instant feedback from your students, this will help you see where your students are at. If you have iPads in the classroom you can use them to help or be a station during small group. The iPad station can be any subjects. What’s so cool about iPads
What is not cool about iPads? Having an iPad is like having the world in your hands. You can do so much great stuff with iPads not just with education but in daily life and in work life as well. You can easily talk with someone that is halfway across the world and you do not have to wait weeks to get a reply. iPads let people make anything they do much more creative. When a student uses an iPad s/he can do anything they put their minds to. We as teachers just have to give them that option.
Elley Goldberg likes almost everything about having an iPad.
Kyle Conrad is excited about the various apps he can use to organize his work — not to mention that he doesn’t have to carry books around.
