Snohomish K-6 Remote

Important Information - August 27, 2021

Principal's Message

Welcome Snohomish K-6 Remote Families and Students,

I’d like to introduce myself to all of you. My name is Mr. Sam Hanson, principal at Emerson Elementary here in Snohomish School District. I’ll also be the principal serving our Snohomish K-6 Remote teachers, students, and families.

Snohomish K-6 Remote will be physically based at Emerson Elementary and that is why you may have noticed Emerson identified as your “school” in Skyward/Family Access. You are a part of the Snohomish K-6 Remote program and, as a district, we had to find a physical location for our Snohomish K-6 Remote teachers to teach from.

We are excited to have you join us and we are working on all the details that you are probably thinking about at this time. We will have more information next week on technology distribution, classroom teacher assignments, lunch and breakfast service, “Meet the Teacher” zoom dates and any other information necessary for your child to get off to a good start for the 2021-2022 school year.

We also know that many of you are interested in staying connected to your home schools and will be working with our staff and connecting with parents in the upcoming weeks to make those connections as well as building a community together in this remote environment.

I look forward to serving and working with our staff on creating a positive remote environment for all of our K-6 remote students. I wanted to remind all our Snohomish K-6 Remote families of our program description, daily schedule and considerations that were listed in the application for our remote program. I believe making sure students are aware of the expectations will allow them to get off to a great start to this 2021-2022 school year.

Thank you for being patient as the details and plans come together and we will share them with you as early as possible in the coming week.

Mr. Sam Hanson

Snohomish K-6 Remote

Snohomish K-6 Remote General Program Description

The Snohomish K-6 Remote differs from what was offered last school year:

  1. Live instruction will start at 9 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m.
  2. Students will be unenrolled from their local elementary school and will be re-enrolled in our district-wide Snohomish K-6 Remote program.
  3. Students will receive live instruction (a combination of whole-class, small-group, and 1:1 instruction) through a screen for roughly five (5) hours a day. The remaining hours in the school day will be independent learning and will include asynchronous PE, music and library each week.
  4. Students will continue instruction through Zoom and will continue to use the Canvas platform.
  5. Students will continue to receive individualized instruction in programs for which they qualify (special education, English language instruction, highly capable instruction, etc.)
  6. It is possible students may be placed in a multi-age classroom (for example, a 1/2 split classroom).
  7. Class structure will be based on enrollment in the program. The district reserves the right to change/adjust teachers and class size.
  8. Materials students need for instruction, including laptops and wifi hotspots, will be provided. Materials will be periodically distributed, and parents/guardians will be expected to pick-up at a central district location.
  9. Meal service will be provided for those interested. Parents/guardians will be expected to pick-up in the morning before each school day at a central district location.
  10. Snohomish K-6 Remote teachers will be physically based at a district school and will be available by Zoom, email or phone.
