REOPENING PLANS
VUSD is currently planning for the reopening of schools in a Hybrid Learning model where 50% of elementary school students attend in the morning and 50% attend in the afternoon for 2.5 hours of face-to-face instruction 4-days a week; students will learn virtually 1 day a week. At the middle school level, 50% of the students attend 2 days a week and the 3 other days are virtual. Families that do not wish to send their children back to school will have a 100% virtual learning option. While at school, students and staff will be expected to wear face masks and practice physical distancing by staying 6-feet apart. Increased sanitation and air purification protocols will also be put in place.
As we continue planning for a safe return to face-to-face instruction, we hope the information below will help answer many of your questions. We also hope you know that you can reach out by email (LaTonyaC@vacavilleusd.org) or phone
(707-453-6210) with any questions or comments you might have.
There have been no dates to return set as of yet, but as soon as a decision is made, we will inform you. There is a school board meeting on Thurs. Oct. 22nd where this topic will be discussed. A date to reopen may be decided by the board that evening. Click here for board meeting link.
This Week's Updates
- Attendance: A reminder that we are taking attendance as usual. IF you know your student will be out for a doctor or dentist appointment, please let Ms. Joan know. We also require a doctor's note for absences for more than 3 days. At the end of each week, teachers are required to document attendance participation in Asynchronous work. It is imperative that students complete all the work assigned during Asynchronous time to receive attendance credit.
- Lexia and Dreambox: Students are supposed to log in to both Dreambox and Lexia when they are not scheduled for small group meetings that day. Students should be on for 60 minutes a week for each app.
- Zoom Reminder: The name students use to enter a Zoom room needs to be their name, not a bunch of random percents and random letters. Teachers take attendance at the end of the period using the names of those listed. We also don't let anyone in a Zoom room that we don't recognize.
- Rep Your School Tuesday: Wear your favorite College Gear!

SOLANO COUNTY LIBRARY INFORMATION
With the school year off to a virtual start, I would like to share some resources that Solano County Library offers. If possible, I would love to participate in a Zoom meeting with teachers and their students to talk about library resources as well as maybe share a quick story time.
Our storytime links are the following:
www.faceboo.com/Solanolibrary (LIVE Thursdays at 10am in August).
www.youtube.com/solanolibrary (prerecorded).
I also recommend Explore.org, if you don’t already use it, it is a fun resource to show children a variety of places and creatures even though we can’t really travel anywhere right now!
Stay safe,

Socktober - Sock drive
Each night in the United States, an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets, some of them are sheltered and some unsheltered. This October, we want to show that even a small act of love, such as donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who are homeless.
There is a bin in the MPR marked "Socktober" for you to drop off as many new pairs of socks as you can. You can also drop them off in the front office. If possible, put the name of your teacher on the bag.
At the end of the month, the class with the most donations will receive a reward. These socks will be donated to the local shelters to add to their winter/holiday gifts.

Cruthird's Corner
I want to thank the Cooper Family for your patience, as we sort through reopening schools. I know that you have many questions, however, just know administrators throughout the district are working tirelessly to come up with responses to your questions and many questions you have not even imagined yet.
Proud to be a Comet!
