First Activity before Jadyn Gets There
- Access this Padlet
- Double tap anywhere
- Type your name and email address
- Type what you're thinking you might want to work on for a Social Justice project (if you are unsure, just start typing things you might be interested in learning more about. For example, several years ago, I really knew nothing about transgender people and had to really research it. Now I can speak quite confidently on the topic.)
- This is a work in progress and may morph over time, so you're just putting what you're interesting in researching now.
- There should be 26 boxes by the time Jadyn gets to class :) (26 students in class)
- Read what other people are wanting to research and see if any of them are similar to your own or might enhance or complement your own proposed topic of study.

Then, give an example of how it shows up in current media or the world around us. [Choose only 2 words to answer] (Ex. Intersectionality): two or more parts of a person's identity (race/ethnicity/gender, etc.) that are simultaneously discriminated against, and this may or may not include the legal system. And example of intersectionality is Black males being killed over recent years getting more media recognition than Black females, and Black transgender people.
- Relating Terms to Each Other: (Pick 3 Clusters) For the following word clusters, explain the distinction between the words and how they relate to each other. [Choose only 3 word clusters to answer]
(Ex. Education, Schooling, Colonialism) - Everybody answers one essay question:
(Ex: What are the pros and cons of charter schools run by corporations? What are the pros and cons of the Common Core as a national set of standards? In what ways are these methods effective for providing education and success for every student?) - Two other questions: one written by our class, and one written by another section

7. Moodle Forum: Due Sunday by 11:59pm
Read The Case for Reparations and the blog post on Understanding Colonizer Status. Then, watch An Education in Equality (10 min.) as well as The Color of Fear movie clips (1 hour total).
Note, the Color of Fear film is edited down, so the first clip you will begin watching will start somewhat abruptly. To provide some broader context, here is a synopsis of film:
"Eight North American men, two African American, two Latinos, two Asian American and two Caucasian were gathered by director Lee Mun Wah, for a dialog about the state of race relations in America as seen through their eyes. The exchanges are sometimes dramatic, and put in plain light the pain caused by racism in North America. " From IMDb
Using evidence from both of the readings and both videos, develop a response to the following prompts and post it to Moodle:
- What, if anything, that the author/actors said relates to how you view the world or have experienced things in your life? Where are you positioned in the concept of "the need for reparations?" How would such reparations affect you personally?
- Choose one thing that was said in the Color of Fear video that really impacted you (positively or negatively). What was it? How did it make you feel? What, if anything, did you learn from the comment? What do you wish you could ask the actor who said it?
- Read and respond to another class member's post. Either challenge an idea that they wrote, or pose a question to them.
- Respond BACK to a question/comment posed to you or to someone else's post, by Tuesday night.
Original post should be ~500-750 words.
