Read Across America - Literacy Night

This is Read Across America Week - celebrating Reading and Dr. Seuss' Birthday (March 2nd). Each day we have a Fun Focus (see flyer below) and on Thursday we have our Family Literacy Night: 5-7pm.

Comprehending what you read sparks the part of your brain that would be doing the said drama. When you understand what you read - 'the shortstop caught the grounder and threw the runner out at first base' the part of your brain that would control those physical actions light up. Reading engages us in a fulfilling way when we comprehend - a great way to travel the world - our real world and those of fantasy.

Join us Thursday, March 2nd, for fun activities that promote Reading. We have a wonderful school library and, a mile off post - is the borough Noel Wien Library. You can spend hours in our libraries and books borrowed from one can be returned at another.

Science Fair - bring your projects into your classrooms on February 28th. Judging happens on March 2nd so they will be open for viewing during our Literacy Night and during the school day on Friday March 3rd.

Literacy Night - March 2nd: 5-7pm. Join us for family fun Thursday Night during Read Across America Week. See below for more information.

Reading Contest~Adults too - Read during the week of Parent/ Teacher Conferences and during the week of Read Across America. Winners receive lunch with the principal. Forms are due March 6th.

Arty Award Applications are due March 10th - These awards go the the Primary and Intermediate girls and boys that best represent our school motto: Do Good Work, Be a Friend, Every Day. They are due March 10th.

End of 3rd Quarter - March 10th. Students go home at 1:30pm so teachers can work on report cards.

Interested in becoming a teacher - see flyer below for a generous grant towards becoming a teacher at UAF.

Main Parking Lot 'Fire Lane' - The main parking lot has a 'Fire Lane' along the curb towards the school. We can have cars idle for only a few minutes and they must be ready to leave in case of emergency. Unless we can keep cars from idling for more than 10 minutes, we will need to make other plans for our front parking lot. Let us know your thoughts or if you're interested in more information.

Don't forget - parents submit Reading Contest Forms too - March 6th.

Possible Changes to School Dismissal Traffic Flow

After discussions with MPs, unless we can keep vehicles from idling for more than 10 minutes, they suggest our front parking lot will be closed 1:15-2:10pm.

Additionally, the north-side, west-bound Neely Rd traffic is slated to be closed 1:15-3:00pm.

Let us know your thoughts about these proposals.

Thank you.
