PRINCIPAL'S DESK

We have had a wonderful week of learning at EES. I have really enjoyed chatting with students this week as they practice old skills, learn new information, and build relationships with each other. We have been focusing on our 2nd school rule (We Take Care of Each Other) this week and students are doing an outstanding job!

You may have heard students talking about the changes in recess at home. We have planned a slow start to recess this year where students practice and learn new games/activities in different zones of our playground. We are finding this to be very successful. Students are learning the expectations, keeping each other safe and having fun. Once students have learned all of the zones at recess, we open them up for free play.

Have a wonderful weekend with your families,

Ashley Gray (EES Principal)

Mrs. Thayer's Class

Kindergarteners are learning play skills during SEL lessons with Mrs. Heaslip! They have been learning how to ask to join in and fair ways to play.

Mrs. Yandell's Second Grade

Our class is working on our cooperative partner skills. Here we are playing math games with a friend - working on combinations to 10!

Fun in the Art Room!

Local News- The Food Pantry

The Heavenly Food Pantry, located at the First Congregational Church on Main Street in Essex

Junction, will be open to families residing in Essex, Essex Junction and Westford on Monday,

September 12, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Families visiting the pantry will be welcome to pick foods

of their choosing for their families. Beginning at 5:30, families arriving will be given a number,

where they will wait in the sanctuary for their number to be called. They will then be

registered and guided to the food pantry, where a volunteer will greet and escort them

around, allowing them to make selections of their choosing. After food is gathered, it will be

weighed (information for pantry use only) and another volunteer will bring the food to the

family’s vehicle. Shopping carts will be made available for those within walking distance of the

pantry.

The Food Pantry requests that those visiting the pantry (as well as the volunteers) remain

masked when the pantry is open for food distribution.

As usual, there are no income requirements to visit the food pantry and a variety of food is

available to everyone; however, additional food provided by the USDA is available once a

month to eligible families who fall below federally mandated guidelines.

Families not able to attend the pantry may call the Church office at 878-5745 between 9:00

a.m. and noon today or Monday to leave contact information so arrangements for delivery can

be made.

Families are currently able to visit the pantry each time it is open-on the 2 nd Monday of the

month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the 4 th Thursday of the month from 2:00-6:00 p.m. (except for

November and December when it is the 3 rd Thursday).

The next food pantry distribution will occur on Thursday, September 22 from 2-6 p.m.

Social Emotional Learning

During the first month of school, our Social Emotional Learning focus has been all about building school community and learning our three School Rules:

School Rules

As we have been learning about what these rules look and sound like all around Essex Elementary School, we have been celebrating when we see students following these rules with our I Caught You… Cards!

Every morning, Mrs. Gray reads these fantastic examples of our students following our school rules and their I Caught You… Cards are hung up in our cafeteria!
