For the Week of April 11 - 14

Estimados Padres,

Kindergarten Dyslexia Screening

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Texas Education Code (§38.003) mandates that all Kindergarten students be screened for dyslexia and related disorders no later than May 25, 2022. The screening is designed to ensure that all students are appropriately screened, and if necessary, are evaluated further so that reading difficulties will be addressed in a timely manner. The results from the screening will be used to guide instruction at the classroom level, shared with you, and used to determine if additional interventions are required for your student.

Thank you,

Burnet Consolidated Independent School District

Behind the scenes at SGE last week...

We're celebrating 4 new "Caught with Character" kiddos! Here is what their teachers had to say about them:

-When challenged with a peer conflict, he "asked the other student to pause, then used his words to tell his friend how he felt and to solve the problem." (This is big for young people!)

-She "is always concerned of others' feelings. She is respectful to classmates and adult staff. She helps her friends learn to read."

-He "has such a kind heart. A student was cold and he offered his jacket to her."

-"She is respectful every day in the car line and sets a great example."

Ongoing Reminders and Quick Links

Is your child celebrating a birthday? Feel free to send individually wrapped birthday treats for your child's class. The teacher will serve them at an appropriate time according to each class's end-of-day schedule.

Please keep in mind the "individually wrapped" condition when planning the treat to send with your student. Individually wrapped treats minimize exposure to extra handling.

Car Line Reminders

-Are you parking on Harvey St. by the grove of trees to drop-off in the morning? If so, please walk your child to a staff member in the front of the building rather than sending him/her to walk alone. Please also avoid blocking residential driveways and bus traffic.

-As a reminder, cars must remain in a single file line on County Road 200. Once in the school's driveway, cars may merge into the appropriate PK/K or 1st/2nd grade lane. (We have observed that some cars are driving past the line of cars on CR 200, turning into the fire lane, and then cutting into their lane in front of all of the cars who are following the appropriate car line procedures. Be kind in line!)

-No in-person pick-up after 3:00pm until the car line is finished. As we work to dismiss our students in a timely and orderly fashion, we must keep the front entry/exit doors uncrowded. As a result, parents needing to check their students out must do so before 3:00pm or after the car line is finished.

Other general reminders:

-Help us keep the line moving as quickly and safely as possible by staying in your car, seating your student on the right side of the vehicle, and giving goodbye hugs and kisses before the drop-off line!

-If adults need to exit the car for any reason (to walk student in, to help student unbuckle, etc), please park in a parking space and walk your child across the crosswalk.

How do I request a change in transportation?

-student's full name

-student's grade level

-student's homeroom teacher

-the transportation change you want made for today (bus to car, car to bus, etc)

In order to ensure a smooth dismissal process for all students, requests made after 1:30pm will not be processed. Notes, phone calls, text messages and emails sent to any other email will not be processed.
