HOSTING A JAPANESE STUDENT IS FUN!!
St Benedict’s College will be hosting a small group of 15 co-ed Japanese high school students, (13 girls and 2 boys) from 1 to 12 August.
We are inviting school families to consider hosting a Japanese student during their time at St Benedict’s College.
**Home stay hosts will be paid a tax free allowance of $400.00 for each student, which will more than meet the costs of hosting.
Last year’s host families enjoyed the experience very much and found it most rewarding and memorable.
Why not consider hosting a student in your home & enjoy this great experience?

Theatresports competition at Girraween High School
On Wednesday 23 May the theatresports team competed in the 2018 Impro Australia - Theatresports competition at Girraween High School. Theatresports is the most important drama competition in the country and draws on many well established high school drama departments such as The Kings School, Tara Anglican School for Girls, Presbyterian Ladies' College, St Andrew's Cathedral School and Newtown High School of the Performing Arts to name a few. Needless to say, this means that the standard is very high and the competition is fierce.
Teams of 3-5 students from each school create 1, 2 and 3-minute improvised scenes live on stage, judged and scored by a team of improvisation professionals. Theatresports increases the students’ confidence, listening skills and teamwork, as well as strengthening their problem-solving abilities and creative thinking, all in a hilarious, fun and supportive environment.
In last years competition, this same team blew everyone away by qualifying third for the semi-final and missing out on the grand final by one point. This meant that the students had placed an enormous amount of pressure on themselves to improve on last years effort. They did this and more!
At the end of the four rounds, the St Benedict's team finished in second place, missing out on first place by one point. This also places them in the best eight theatresports teams in the state.
The students who performed were:
Julian Di Giovanni
Isabelle Brown-Rogers
Lukkas Marripodi
Emma Hooten
I am filled with pride over the maturity and confidence they displayed both on stage and when making friends in workshops. As a drama teacher, there is nothing that fills you with simultaneous feelings of dread and excitement like theatresports. These four have displayed all the great characteristics of a student at St Benedict's and are in fact trailblazers in the creation of a culture of performance at the college that will last forever.
If you wish to see them perform, come along to the semifinals. It would be great to see a crowd from Bennies and would also mean I won't be the only one screaming at the top of my lungs in support:

Australian Jobs 2018
Australian Jobs 2018 is a wonderful resource which provides an overview of trends in the Australian labour market to support jobseekers, employers and career advisors as well as those considering future education and training.
This year’s edition identifies four key trends:
· Labour market conditions are strong — employment is up by a robust 403,300 over the year to January 2018.
· Young people are benefiting from the strong labour market conditions — industries with large numbers of young workers include Retail Trade (around 386,000), Accommodation and Food Services (385,000) and Construction (175,000).
· Australia’s industry structure is changing — today, more than three in every four Australian workers are employed in a service industry, with much of the growth driven by Health Care and Social Assistance.
· There are now more jobs for higher skilled workers — the majority of employment growth over the past five years has been in occupations that generally require post-school qualifications, and this trend is likely to continue.
