MEF Strikes with Support Again!
Thank you to the Morris Educational Foundation (MEF) for providing all certified teachers with a Tech or Treat bag. Each staff member received a bag with either Halloween treats or materials to assist with in person and virtual teaching. The materials were part of a $4,000 grant requested by Erica Hartman and made possible by the Morris Educational Foundation.
It was so much fun to deliver these treats to our teachers. We appreciate your continued support!
Celebrating Our Differences
Our fifth grade SNAP ambassadors completed the SNAP training with our 3rd graders including some of our remote learners. This incredible group of students delivered an impactful message about inclusion, acceptance, and empathy. They did a fantastic job and the 3rd graders were extremely receptive to their wisdom as to how to include others and always be a kind and helpful friend.
Our 5th Grade SNAP Ambassadors are:

Parent/Teacher Conferences
This part of the newsletter will have a question or a topic for you to discuss with your child(ren). This can be done on the way to school, on the way to sports practice, before dinner, at bedtime, etc.
Each week there will be a “something to think about” question and a “something to talk about” question. The “something to think about question” is for you as a parent to reflect on for yourself. The “something to talk about” question is for you to discuss with your child. These exercises are meant to stimulate a conversation on race, equity and inclusion in America.
Let’s Talk About Race, Equity and Inclusion
Week Eight
Parent Reflection Question: Is it difficult for you to find products (such as bandaids, makeup, hair care products toys, etc) that reflect your race/ethnicity?
Activity To Do With Your Child: The next time you visit the toy store or Target or Wal-Mart, have your child count the number of black dolls, white dolls and Asian dolls available for purchase.
Semana ocho
Week Nine
Parent Reflection Question: When you put on the TV, go to the movies, or read a book do you see yourself reflected in the characters?
Activities To Do With Your Child: With your child, go through their book collection. What race are the characters? Are any people of color represented?
If your child likes superheroes, ask which one they identify with? Have them identify which superheroes look like them.
Semana nueve
Week Ten
Parent Reflection Question: When talking about race, the topic of hair can often be a sensitive topic for people of color. Has anyone ever made you feel uncomfortable about your hair? What was the experience like for you?
Tenth Question For Child: Has anyone ever asked you to touch their hair? How did it make you feel? Have you ever touched anyone else’s hair? Why? How do you think it made the other person feel?
Semana diez
Students spend time discussing this quote throughout the week. They discuss what they believe it means, why they believe the person said it. Finally they reflect on these questions and determine how they can apply it to their lives.
What does the quote mean? (Literal but not a repeat of the quote)
Why might __________ have said this?
How can you apply this to your life as a learner?
What lesson can we as a society learn from this quote?
