SCHOOL & DISTRICT UPDATES AND REMINDERS
Face Coverings
The Lexington-Richland School District Five Board of Trustees has adopted a resolution to “strongly encourage” staff and “encourage” students to wear face coverings on district sites effective immediately. Masks are still required on school buses, which are owned, funded and maintained by the state Department of Education, under the resolution. Visitors must also wear face coverings on district property.
Per the resolution:
Staff Members
Staff members are strongly encouraged to wear a face covering while on district property or conducting business on behalf of the district (e.g. driving a bus, conducting a home visit, supervising athletic events, etc.).
Students
Face coverings are encouraged to be worn by all students and teachers when entering and exiting school buildings, while in the halls and common areas, and while in close proximity to others.
Transportation
As school buses are owned, funded and maintained by the South Carolina Department of Education, students and staff utilizing these buses for transport to and from school will be expected to adhere to the South Carolina Department of Education Face Covering Guidelines for School Buses.
Visitors
Non-essential visitors to district buildings will be limited in accordance with administrative rule KI-R, Visitors. Visitors include, but are not limited to, parents/legal guardians, contract service providers, and delivery persons. Visitors are required to wear a face covering while on district property.
Harassment and Bullying
The district will not tolerate harassment of anyone wearing or not wearing face coverings and will appropriately discipline students, staff, or visitors who engage in behavior that interferes with any student or staff member’s ability to comply with this resolution.
This resolution is intended to be effective until either an Executive Order from the Governor or the State School Board changes their mask guidelines, at which time this resolution will be fully null and void. Click the link to read the resolution in its entirety: Face Covering Resolution
SCHOOL DISTRICT FIVE COVID-19 DASHBOARD
Lexington-Richland School District Five has launched a COVID-19 dashboard.
During a special-called meeting on Nov. 30, the Board approved a motion to have the district create a webpage “dashboard” for reporting active COVID-19 positive cases and quarantine cases in schools. The motion requires the district to “Reallocate resources that we currently have to create a weekly data dashboard / website to reflect numbers by school, to include active COVID-19 cases and quarantine numbers for students and staff, separately recording numbers for FIVE (virtual program) teachers and students.”
The dashboard, which will be updated each Friday, can be found on the district website homepage and at the following link: www.lexrich5.org/covid19dashboard. For more information on the district’s COVID-19 response, click the "20-21 COVID-19 Information" tab on our district website or visit www.lexrich5.org/20-21reentry.
COVID-19 SAFEGUARDS
Safety is a top priority. School District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties has worked in collaboration with health officials to establish health protocols for the 2020-21 school year, in response to COVID-19. Students and staff will be asked to complete daily self-screenings before reporting to school/district campuses. District schools will follow DHEC guidance regarding the management of suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases.
