Dealey Dragon Update
February 11, 2019
Happy Monday Dealey families,
We are happily headed into two four day weeks!
Building Temperatures
This crazy Texas weather is hard to keep up with. Most of our building is cooled by a chiller that functions when filled with water. In the winter the water is drained and not refilled until the beginning of March. This means that in many parts of the building we will not be able to turn on the air conditioner until the water in the chiller is refilled. Please be aware and have your child dress accordingly. I appreciate your understand, and I appreciate our students' and teachers' flexibility in managing the temperatures on unseasonably warm days.
Magnet Applications
We are finished with our interviews and entrance assessments! All of our staff pitched in to interview and assess prospective students, and we are looking forward to mailing out our acceptance letters on March 1st.
Fun Run
Thank you for your participation in PTA's fund raiser. We are so lucky to have such supportive families, and our students look forward to participating in the Fun Run on February 14th.
Lemons to Lemonade
Last week at our staff meeting we did a quick activity called Lemons to Lemonade. I asked staff to think of one “lemon” (something negative that happened that day). Then, they shared that with a partner, and the partner’s task was to turn the “lemon” into “lemonade” by re-framing the statement into something positive. For example: Lemon: “I have to work tonight”. Lemonade: “You will get to meet amazing families and prospective students that will be a part of our community next year”.
I have used this exercise with students (and sometimes my own family) to help promote positive and solutions oriented thinking. This is an easy short exercise that you can do with your children as well to help them find the silver lining.
