Visual Learning (Mind Mapping) Digital Trends: Follow up to "An Atmosphere of Understanding"
Visual Learning
Visual Learning is a learning style where the learner better understands and retains information when ideas, words, and concepts are associated with images. Visual learning helps students organize and analyze information, integrate new knowledge and think critically. Graphic organizers, diagrams, and outlines are just some strategies of visual learning. This is also known as mind mapping. As we are moving towards digitizing more of our everyday learning practices. Mind mapping is also going digital. Mind mapping is a great way to encourage students to take notes in a way that best suits their learning style.
Mind Mapping: Inspiration 9
Here at Colonial Forge we have an "in house" mind mapping tool that is available to all students and teachers on our PC computers. This tool is called Inspiration 9. This tool is located in the novel launcher under every teacher log in and student log in. As a teacher you can upload your notes into Inspiration and it will create a powerpoint and start a mind map for you. You are also able to print out or send created mind maps to students. There is also an outline feature which can turn the mind mapping information into an outline. Click on the video link to learn more: INSPIRATION

Chris Kountz's Research Project
Christina Kennedy's QR Bingo
The students had to walk around the room and scan QR codes to get the questions for their bingo board. Mostly positive feedback from class; students liked being allowed to use their devices, liked working in pairs, enjoyed moving around, and appreciated the option to move at their own pace.
