Weekly Family Update # 37
May 17, 2020
Principal's Message
Hello Falcon Families,
I hope you all have had a fantastic weekend. The school year is winding down. I cannot believe there are less than 4 weeks until summer vacation! There will be a lot of important information coming up in the next few newsletters about the end of the year including the process for collecting items that need to be returned to school like textbooks and signed registration documents, the passing back of items that belong to students, yearbooks, and promotion information.
We will start our wind down of school with an opportunity for students to retrieve their PE Clothes and clean out their locker, return Choir Attire (for those in Choir), and return any Library Books (NOT TEXTBOOKS yet). Please carefully read information below about how you can sign up for a time to come to campus.
Students are currently still participating in Distance Learning, therefore, we are not collecting textbooks, instruments and/or Chromebooks at this time. In the next few weeks we will have a similar process for returning these items to school as well as returning items back to families including including textbooks, medications, student work, registration documents, technology, and other items. More information will be included in this newsletter each week.
This week is our annual ASB sponsored St. Baldrick's fundraiser to support childhood cancer research. Look for the message below to sign-up to shave your head in solidarity with children who are battling cancer.
Thanks for all you do for our Oak Valley Community! Go Falcons!
Beaming with Falcon Pride,
Mr. Young

PE Locker Clean Out, Library Book Return, and Choir Attire Collection
This week we being the process for students to retrieve their PE clothes and clean out their locker, return Choir Attire (for those in Choir), and return any Library Books (NOT TEXTBOOKS yet).
Please read the following information carefully about how you can sign up for a time to come to campus:
Please use the SignupGenius link HERE to select a time to come to campus. This will help us better coordinate and control the total number of people on campus at any one time. Please also adhere to the following protocols:
PLEASE NOTE: Masks must be worn at all times by all persons, adults and students, during this process and families are asked to follow social distancing guidelines. We also ask that families quickly move through this process and leave campus promptly. Thank you!
Library Books
There will be a collection cart in front of the school near the Gym/MPR where you can place any library books that students have checked out. Please NO TEXTBOOKS! We will be collecting those closer towards the end of the year.
Choir Attire
If your student has choir attire to return, there will be a collection box near the front of the GYM/MPR where you can place your items.
PE Lockers/Clothes
We will be using the following procedure for students to clean out their PE lockers:
1. One designated entrance and one designated exit will be used to help maintain social distancing and lessen the instances of people closely passing each other. You will be directed to the blacktop area behind the gym to start. We will have markers to ensure safe distancing while waiting in line.
2. OVMS staff will direct you when you can enter the locker room with your student(s) to gather their belongings from their PE locker.
3. Please know that only 1 adult and 1 student may be allowed inside the locker room (unless there are siblings). Any additional family members will be asked to remain in the car.
4. Please work with your student to ensure they know their locker number and lock combination prior to coming to campus. This will make the process smoother for everyone. Please check with your student as all OVMS students wrote their locker information inside their planner at the start of the year.
5. You will then exit out the gym towards the parking lot.
6. Please know that while we are beginning this process this week, there will be ample opportunity in the upcoming weeks to retrieve your student's PE belongings.
** If you no longer want what is in your student’s locker or the lock, please email Oak Valley Assistant Principal, Shannon Chamberlin, at schamberlin@powayusd.com with the locker number and we will donate the contents. **
7. Please see the map below to get a better understanding of the route and process.
Please adhere to the time you signed up so that the process is smooth for all of our OVMS families.
Students are currently still participating in Distance Learning, therefore, we are not collecting textbooks, instruments and/or Chromebooks at this time. In the next few weeks will be have a similar process for returning these items to school as well as returning items back to families including textbooks, medications, student work, registration documents, technology, and other items. More information will be included in this newsletter each week.
