Monday Memo

Great Things!
Thank you to our social committee for setting up and providing a wonderful picnic lunch on Thursday! What a springy lunch idea! This team has set the bar high this year with their fun lunches! Thank you!
Class pictures went well and I can't wait to see how they turn out!
Fire drills went well overall! We found a few glitches by having several students out of the room with our parent educators and the process with that-so it was a great learning experience!
PAT began screenings on our pk students this past week. A big thank you to them for taking the time out of their schedules to get this done for us. They are super busy trying to get all of their required visits done before our deadline-and they are still getting our screenings done. They rock! Thank you to our phenomenal parent educators!
It's always fun to have the elementary honor society kids from CW over! They helped out in several of our classrooms and enjoyed their time with us!
We had 13 families show up to hear about transitioning to Kindergarten last Tuesday night. Parents had great questions for our panel! Thank you to Kimberly and Shandi for staying and providing child care for all of the children that came with their parents. That was so helpful! Also a big thank you to Mike and Bob for setting up and cleaning the library at the "last minute" to have it looking good for our families! I couldn't have done it without them!
Challenge: This time of year gets tough- we are tired, the kids are anxious, and "that one" kid is working your last nerve. This week your challenge is to "be the difference for THAT kid. THAT kid that is off-task, uses unkind words, and is hard to love. THAT kid needs you the most. You can help change THAT kid's life trajectory in a huge way." Can you do it? Now's the time.

Nuts-n-Bolts:
* The announcements for the week are loaded into the shared file. Natasha's a.m. class is featured this week. Next week: Heather
*Websites are due to be updated by the end of the day Friday the 26th. Please email me when you have done this.
*Tornado drills were originally scheduled for this Friday. We will be moving those to Thursday to avoid Dino O'Dell's performance.
*For technology check-in/upgrade (microsoft 10)--you will need to stop by the library with all of your devices to be inventoried by IT on Wednesday. They will be there at 8:00 a.m. ready to start, and will take the last device/devices at 2:30. You will need to plan to be without your device for about an hour. So please plan the time you stop by accordingly. Please back up all of your documents BEFORE you bring your laptop/ipad to the library. This has to be done before they can upgrade your device.
*Please plan to be in the library-ready to start at 3:00 on Wednesday to hear about our insurance options/information.
*I know with the nice weather-a lot of us have been opening windows in our classrooms and offices. Please remember to pull them shut and latch them when you leave for the evening. This helps keep our building safe and secure. **This includes the teacher's lounge--if you eat lunch in there and open a window-please pull it shut when you leave.
* April library book shelving duty: Shannon
Speech/Language Tip of the Week:
Choose a few directional/positional words to focus on for the week. Talk about using specific words to describe where things are - don’t accept ‘right there’. You can first tell kids where to place objects for receptive language tasks (under, in front, beside, in, behind, on, around). Then see if you can place objects and have the kids tell you where it is using specific directional words. Remember, kids first need to learn these concepts with actual objects before they can relay the same information on paper/pencil tasks.
