Democracy Now and Then
Around 550 B.C. in Athens, democracy was created. All adult citizen participate in an active part in the government..Only men were citizens in Ancient Greece. Women, children, and slaves were not citizens (they were not allowed to vote or participate in the government). Then men involved made and discussed new laws. There are two different types of democracy, direct and representative. Ancient Greece used Direct where all citizens vote for a law. The United States uses representative, the citizens vote for the representatives and then the representatives discuss and vote for new laws.
