Weekly News from Pickett's Mill Elementary
Welcome to The Pirate Patch!
Sneak a Peek!
We are excited to welcome you to the 2014-15 school year! Please join us on Friday, August 1st for Sneak a Peek from 8:00-10:00 a.m. You will be able to meet your child's teacher, join PTA, get information about our Foundation, set up a lunch account and much more! Parking will be limited so we encourage carpooling.
Bus Ride Along
There will be an opportunity for all kindergarten and first grade students and their parents to ride the bus to Sneak a Peek. Bus routes will run at the regular scheduled time. Please visit http://edulogwebs1.cobbk12.org/edulog/webquery/ for bus routes and contact CCSD Transportation (770)594-8000 for additonal information.
Pirate Pathway!
Thank you parents for your generous donations and patience as our Pirate Pathway is now complete! The 1/4 mile pathway has already been in use this summer by walkers, joggers and a few bicycles. We even had deer tracks on the pathway!
STEM Initiatives
We are excited about offereing new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) opportunities for our students this year. We will continue to have Science Olympiad and an after school science enrichment club. Thanks to our parents and community, our Small Fry to Go Labitat has been installed and we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of several thousand rainbow trout eggs this fall. We are also welcoming Ms. Pepper Misicno, STEM teacher, who will create engaging, hands-on experiences for all students in our newly renovated STEM lab. Ms. Janet McCourt will continue to manage our technology lab and work in partnership with Ms. Misinco.
Please visit http://www.smallfrytogo.net/2014/03/31/stem-at-henderson-mill-elementary-school/ for a look at Henderson Mill Elementary STEM iniatitives, including Small Fry to Go and Lego Robotics. We are thrilled to be able to offer both of these programs to our Pickett's Mill Pirates this year!
